Re: Lebanon....

The news outlets seem to be stoked that the UN is coming close to reaching a resolution.....

Seems a bit absurd, and begs the question....

Since Leb/Hez was already ignoring previous resolutions, is Israel under any obligation to abide by this one...

The UN draft resolution calls for Hezbollah to stop all attacks and for Israel to stop "offensive military operations," but it would allow Israel to defend itself if attacked.

I see it as giving them an "out", especially with waning Israeli public support.

Criminal defense, perfect record. Cops tend to be 1 or at best 2 dimentional, so their evidence can be tossed like 60% of the time.

I don't know if it's just reporting or just how it's going but I keep seeing "stepping up attacks before the cease fire".

Sounds to me like they need to fight on a bit more and get it out of their systems.

Re: Lebanon....

I talked to my friend who's Lebanese today. She seems pretty misguided about the entire situation (and has misguided her boyfriend) they seem to think Hezbollah is not a terrorist organization, they are good and help the people of Lebanon she says (sure they might but at the cost of other people). She also believes they did nothing to provoke the Israelis. After less than 3 minutes of that I stopped talking because I don't know enough on the subject and she knows too much of her own people's side of things.

They are good and do good things for the Lebanese people, but only to maintain enough support to operate and keep people on their side. It's a basic tenet of maneuver warfare. One thing Al Qaeda and like organizations have in common. They do a great job of manipulating public opinion and winning the loyalties of the common people.

But, then again, how do you know she's misguided if you don't know enough to talk about the subject for more than 3 minutes?

If anyone is interested in first hand updates without a political slant there is a good thread going at another board I'm a member of. A couple of people post what they see and hear daily (even hourly), very long thread but if you skip to end you will see updated info. Very powerful stuff.

They are great to the people. They love them so much they cannot leave when they visit and mistakingly the terrible vile Jews bombs their friends because of the missile launcher they had parked while visiting...

simply because of this comment she made "Lebanon did NOTHING to provoke the Israelis" thats just simply not true. but she could have come up with many other points and I would not have known if they were good or bad ones. so I stopped talking.

I would argue "Lebanon did NOTHING to prevent the Israelis from attacking", mainly - roll-up the Hezbollah militant arm.

But hey, she's in America. She has a right to her opinion - here.

While I don't disagree with you, I guess that depends on perspective.

Some may consider Israels reaction as disproportionate, but didn't America state after 9/11 we would root-out terrorists wherever they may hide?

Didn't we go on foreign soil for just that reason?

GREAT post. I read 40 pages of that thread yesterday. Very interesting.

Probably not a bad forum for me to skim over and see how to earn more miles anyway.

Thanks man.

I too have burnt some time reading that one, I find it's always easier for me to think about the conflict and who is right or wrong, its interesting to be able to see how it is effecting everyday people on each side.

Now that I think about it maybe I'll go read some more, I'm trying to find something to do while I'm staying up all night so I will be able to sleep on my flight to London in the morning.
