engine running hot

I have a '02 954 and my fan motor went out and the engine ran hot.I replaced the fan motor and it still runs hot.Any idea what I might need to check?

Did it dump coolant? If so, it may be low or have some air trapped in it somewhere.

Did you reconnect the fan? Not trying to make you sound stupid. When I swapped my exhaust, I forgot to reconnect the fan and got stuck in traffic on my next ride. Needless to say, it made for some fun roadside troubleshooting.

Yea in dumped coolant through the overflow.I did did recheck the fan to see if it was coming on and it is.If I'm on the highway it does not get but as soon as I exit and stop at a red light, it goes up.

Sound like an air pocket or low coolant for the first try.

Yep. If it dumped, it's low. Top it off, burp it to get rid of the air in the system and it all will be right with the world again.

The reason it's not running hot on the highway is due to the extra airflow over the radiator and engine. As soon as you slow down or stop, you lose the airflow and its cooling effects.

Pull your panel off, pop the radiator cap off. Top off the fluid to the bottom of the neck, just below the hose to the overflow bottle.

Start the engine. Give it a couple of quick short twists of the throttle. If the level goes down, top it off and do it again. Put the radiator cap back on. Take if for a spin to get it up to operating temp. Shut it down [edit: let it cool down a bit] and pop the cap again to check the level. If it went down again, top it off to the bottom of the neck again.

Start it back up and give it a couple of quick twists. If the level goes down again, repeat all the above.
