| 520 VS 530 ALRIGHT i cant figure out what i need. im looking at a lot of chain and sprocket kits. but dont i have a 525. yet a lot of people have gone to a 520 conversion. but i thought a 520 only held 600cc. and a 530 1000cc. so why would you go to a 520 im confused. and i want stock toothing on my kit. i found one on motomummy by driven its a hard anodized aluminum rear sprocket 43tooth. and a steel front sprocket 16tooth. with a rk gxw 530 chain silver. 225.00 |

| Re: 520 VS 530 It really doesnt matter. A 520 is for more than just a 600cc machine. You can put it on your 929, or a busa. May not last as long on a busa, but depends on how you take care of it too. I always go to a 520 after the stock is worn, most time b4 the stock one is worn. 520 will equal quicker accel due to the less weight, and a lil bit cheaper if you shop around good. I always do the hard anodized also. |

| Re: 520 VS 530 DID X2 Superstreet or ERV3 or other similar chains from other manufacturers will do just fine. I'm currently running the X2 chain and its been going strong.

| Re: 520 VS 530 the pitch of the chain has nothing to do with it's ability to transfer power, as stated above. The most important thing to remember is to match the tensile strength of the chain to the horsepower of the bike. Obviously, the higher the tensile strength the more power it can handle. Tensile strength measures the force required to pull something such as rope, wire, or a structural beam to the point where it breaks. ( I got this from wiki, and there is actually much more to it, but for this discussion it is all that is needed.)
Unless you are going to be racing, which it appears you will not, you don't really have to upgrade to the different pitch. It becomes a matter of preference. |

those are all stock sizes; so, you won't notice a difference at all.
besides, vortex are known to not last all that long.
ask yourself why you're changing? the stock sprocets are steel and will last longer than the vortexs.
if you need a new chain and sprockets, then why not go to a 520? now is your chance.
if you stay with 530 then try changing your gearing. try -1 tooth in the front or +2 in the rear. (or both) it'll make a huge difference. |

| Re: 520 VS 530 Agreed Gravy. I doubt I would ever replace my chain or sprockets and not go 520 instead of 530. I went one down and two up on the sprockets which did take off some top end but I do a lot more riding up to 120mph then over and the gearing change makes the bike able to hang with the new bikes no problem. |

| Re: 520 VS 530 well i dont want my speedo to be off. and if you suggest steel then mabey ill go steel. but rk doesnt recommend a 520 chain for bikes over 750 cc's. so i bought a 530 x ring. |

| Re: 520 VS 530 is it taboo to just change the rear sprocket and not the chain and front as well? my chain is in good shape, but I'd like to go +2 on the rear. not to mention, $70 for a rear sprocket or $200 for everything, I'd rather go with $70. |

The recommendation is to change them all at the same time, as they break in together. Changing one without the others can cause them to wear out quicker, but I don't think it'll cause any other problems. I changed gearing when I had a few thousand miles on my bike. Changed both sprockets but not the chain. Now at 16k, no problems. |
