Aprilia to build the bike that Honda should be building.

No it isn't a 90' motor but by the sounds of things, it has most of the other stuff on my wishlist. Damn... Could this bring a resurgence of V4s in superbike?

Anyone else have any more info?

Stolen from motorcycleusa.com:

Quote:
Aprilia is to launch a 1000cc Superbike at the end of 2007 with the intention of re-entering the World Superbike Championship for 2008. Aprilia's top man, Leo Mercanti, recently confirmed the engine will be a V-4. Although no hard details are being released, expect the cylinder vee angle to be around 75 degrees with about 170 bhp for the road-going version that can be upped to 200 bhp when used on the race track. Aprilia hopes to keep the price for the road version to acceptable levels.

That's the bike they should've originally built.

Yeah, us Aprilia nuts have been waiting for this bike to appear out of the wings. There have been hints dropped with lots of eye-winks and devilish grins from Aprilia reps. It's worth noting that none of their current twins are 90's either. My RSV is a 60 degree, for example.

Let's see how it actually rides though... remember how the cube was... no one could ride the damn thing.

Doesn't Rotax make the engines?

Yep. Which is owned by Bombardier which is sorta owned by Quebec. So that's really a French Canadian bike. Or Quebexican.

THe Cube used a 3 cylinder slice of a Cosworth F1 V10.... crazy powerband like a switch.

Rotax manufactures them, but Aprilia designs them. I get the "Bomberdibike" jokes all the time...

1000cc high performance V4? Looks like I will be an Aprilia owner in the near future if Honda doesn't get off their a$$e$.

If they can price it close to where the RSV-R is now, the dealer here could get a Honda in their used dept.

I like the sounds of that bike, and I have always loved the prillers

Maybe in 2008 or 2009 when my bike is "finished" and I need something else to "play" with

Re: Aprilia to build the bike that Honda should be building.

Some more info on the V-4.... someone leaked a photo, it's a fake for all I know, but still, it's sexy. One of Tamburini's apprentices designed it.

Also, the engine will be 100% in house, no more farming out to Rotax.

Hot damn!

I can't stand those gay lion man graphics, but that is a sexy shape.

Edit: looks like they have the cylinders leaning back... making room for the rad up front. Wonder how long the wheelbase is and how they arranged the tank/airbox?

Re: Aprilia to build the bike that Honda should be building.

Kick ass bike. Fist thing I'd do is rip those plastics off to get rid of those ugly-assed standard Aprilia graphics, and throw on a set of track fiberglass.
That thing with the 550CC version of the twin would be a riot on the track, and a 1000cc V-4 would be even better.

That is not the bike.

Re: Aprilia to build the bike that Honda should be building.

some UK Aprilia honcho just informed that it has been confirmed (we all know how that goes though) the V4 will be in the Tuono first - maybe even by August/September.
