| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications Well after reading the shootout between all the 08 600's and the 848, its clear that none of the 600's where a match.. At the track the 848 just was too much bike for the supersports.. Also the power numbers of the 848 compared to the 600's wasn't even close and I guess it shouldn't be since the 848 does have a bigger displacement.. But I was impressed with the torque numbers.. 2008 Supersport Shootout VI - MotorcycleUSA.com |

| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications I'd like to know if that huge hole in the torque curve can be fixed with a PC.

| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications to be honest, the thing doesn't seem worth the money to me. Tara traded in her 500 and her 600rr on one. It's no quicker than the 600rr was by any means. The handling is good, looks are great. But I just can't justify the price..
And don't even get caught stuck in traffic on the thing wearing jeans. The heat off the exhaust burned Tara's leg like a mother****er one afternoon.
Pretty to look at but I just wouldn't do it.

| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications the 848 is no quicker then a 600? more torque more hp some how I find that hard to believe. The bike has a better power to weight ratiop then the 999 and it was plenty more quick then the 600s. Im sure it takes some getting used to and probably needs to be ridden a bit diff throttle wise then an inline 4. The torque curve isnt that strange. It is basicly the same curve as the 600s (with higher numbers the whole way through) but compressed into a shorter span. |

| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications It also depends on what you mean by quicker and who's riding it. In the shootout it was WAY quicker than the inline 600's in the 1/4 mile. It was faster and slower on the track (see attachment). Either way it doesn't matter to me because I don't want one because of the speed. They all have more than I need. I just want one because I love it.
Notice that on the track when ridden by a pro the bikes only had a spread of about 1.5 seconds from the fastest to the slowest. When ridden by a non pro the total gap between the fastest and slowest .47 seconds. It's all going to come down to who's riding it.

| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications Agreed slick I just WANT it cuz I love it. To be honest I can ride faster on a bike without overwhelming power. Rode a buddys worked 07 1000rr (i believe 156 RWHP) and I really did not like it. Almost convinced me not to buy the 08. What is the RWHP on a 929? how about torque? If the 848 is compareable Im all over it. A beautiful cutting edge Ducati with 600 handling and 900 power? SWEET |

As well as the 848 is going to dominate any middleweight class.. The only competition is the GSX-R750 which is a few thousands less but if you compare the specs its no contest... | ur so right bout gsxr 750
we had one dynoed at my school
it only makes 105 horse power at the rear wheel.
so whats that tell u? 130 hp? total suzuki bullSH*T |

but this is the real world not the track
people
dont put there knees down

as an all around real world bike the ducati is the winner.
r6
below 9 grand u got nothin
it sucks in real world traffic around town.
gsxr 600
um with a gsxr 750 out
why even look at a gsxr 600?????
cbr 600rr
great honda bike
but still lacks power
n exoticness.
vtwins are a whole seperate class then the inline 4s. |

| I want an 848 sooo bad, but never, ever would I say it is a winner in the real world. It is SOOO uncomfortable, hot, expensive, etc. The only way the Ducati is a winner in the "real" world is if your world includes lots of twisty roads, and NO traffic. Have you even sat on an 848 or 1098? They make the 600RR feel like a couch. My F4i has one of the old school seats that is known as being a rock hard and very square, I can't handle more than about 300 miles a day on it. The seat is on the 848 is way harder and more square. So don't get me wrong, I still want an 848 and as soon as I have the cash in hand I'll have one but it is not a "real world" bike. Every review says the same thing. Great engine, horrible comfort.

Actually the first guy here in Des Moines to buy an 848 had the bar risers put on before it ever left the shop. It made it so that the bars wouldn't clear the fairing very well. You couldn't come anywhere near full lock without it smashing your hands. It made it a real "handful" in tight spaces.

| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications No surprise there. It is a great true "middleweight." I'd still really like an 'S' model with Ohlins and forged Marchesini's but the rumor is that Ducati feels that would put the price into a range that it would cut into 1098 sales. I think it is cutting into 1098 sales as it is so why not offer some "options?"

| Re: Ducati 848 Photos & Specifications because doing so usually means spending money they cant afford. Having a whole list of various upgrades means more production more parts supply, organization and distribution along with cataloging them, working them into their parts, stock and production structure. It sounds simple to add a few up grades you can buy but the cost to the company probably would be more then they would make back from them. The smaller the company the harder it is to do such things. A big company like honda could do it and even if they made NO money from the up grades they may get it back from greater unit sales of the bike. Ducati probably would not sell significantly more 848s because of the up grades they would offer to make it cost effective. |
