Valve Clearance Inspection CBR1000RR - DIY Article

After doing Valve Clearance Inspection on my Honda CBF1000A 2007, I have written this DIY article with lots of pictures and text.

As the CBF1000A has a retuned 2005 Fireblade engine this article might be interesting for members on this forum.

I also have a CBR1000RR, 2008 and the Honda Shop Manual for it, and there seems to be allmost no difference between the procedures. Only difference I have found is the nominal exhaust clearance is 0.30 mm on the Fireblade and 0.32 mm on the CBF1000A.

Cheers ... Fred

Thanks very much. Even my "short bus self", can understand that article, and the pics are great.

If you don't stand for something, then you'll fall for anything. The proverbial "trick", is not to follow anyone elses idea of reality. Be an individual. The future belongs to those who prepare for it.

Re: Valve Clearance Inspection CBR1000RR - DIY Article

Hi Sidmarklong, Matty_998cc and Cbr1kfireblade,

I'm pleased you like the article. My 2008 CBR1000RR now has more than 9.000 kms on the clock and I have had it excactly one year now, so it will probably be in 2111 I will do valve clearance inspection on the real blade and write up a new article.
In the meantime, please report any differences you might encounter between your bikes and what is written or pictured in the present article.
I think this kind of DIY articles can help us all to a better understanding of the technical stuf and possibly save us a buck or two.

Cheers .... Fred

Re: Valve Clearance Inspection CBR1000RR - DIY Article

The "Valve Clearance Inspection" DIY article for Honda CBF1000A on www.fireblader.dk has now been supplemented with a "Valve Clearance Adjustment" DIY article which takes you all the way into the engine top replacing shims to adjust valve clearances.

The article also explains how to do the valve job without having any special cam chain tensioner tool.

The engine on the CBF1000A is a "detuned" fireblade engine which is very similar to the latest versions of CBR1000RR (say from 2006).

As width all the other DIY articles on this site, feed back with errata, sugestions and questions are most welcome.

Cheers ... Fred
