any chance you could do a step by step for replacing the stator? I just did mine and its making an unpleasant rattling sound and I can smell something rubbing.. not good!!

Is it in the right way around?
Did you follow the manual?

Re: How to Change Oil- 2002 954

in true have-a-go herbert style I did not have a manual, i took pictures of what it looked like when it came off and tried to follow them going back on. what I'm worried about is if it isnt a mis aligned stator its something more internal which will really toast my sandwich

Re: How to Change Oil- 2002 954

drained oil took it all back apart, improperly torqued flywheel bolt looks to be the issue. schoolboy error. lets see if this sorts it..

Re: How to Change Oil- 2002 954

Since we resurrected this thread, allow me to interject the fact that you don't need to disconnect the side faring at the bottom, from the other side fairing. Just remove the other bolts and lean that fairing piece over/against something, then you'll have just enough room to pull the drain plug and reach in to get the oil filter. Though... completely disconnecting the piece would give you more room to work, so that's an advantage there.
Just a personal preference one way or the other.

Thanks for the post. Changed my oil for the first time today and I'm sure this saved me a few headaches.
