| Sydney E-tag motorcycle issue (worth reading for political humour) For those that may or may not know, the e-tag system in sydney for automatically paying tolls is not 100% motorcycle friendly at present.
A member of an Aussie bike forum sent an email to the RTA regarding this issue - this is par tof the reply...
"Please read the below information that I have provided for you -
Tags will not work with all types of motor cycles and the RTA is working with the Motor Council of NSW towards a solution.
In the meantime, a tag fitted to the rider's side of a motor cycle windshield will work but a tag so fitted may need to be protected from wet weather to ensure the tag continues to operate...."
Anyone else see the problem with this reply???
I'm so glad that the Roads and Traffic Authority of NSW has it's finger on th epulse and knows exactly what is going on. Now, better let them get back to more revenue raisin.. err.. saving lives.

The Sydney e-tags are the same as the melb ones, and I do know a few riders who just put the e-tag in their front jacket pocket, and seems to work OK.
Also, it appears the sensors at the gates don't pick up bikes (without e-tags) so if you go throgh the red light, you wont get snapped...

Z... | Agree. I put mine in the pocket and once I'd left in the back-pack, didn't register. I stopped (hey I'm like that) went back a bit, then forward, then through on red. Nothing seemed to happen as a result so maybe it doesn't pick bikes up.
There's probably a dead spot also to the side which you could use.

| Re: Sydney E-tag motorcycle issue (worth reading for political humour) I hate paying tolls on new roads, and it's worse on roads that allready existed, but they decided to charge us to use them |

Their reference must be "rider's side" versus "squid side"... that is, the rider sits behind the windshield and the squid sits in front! So technically, the tag must go on the rear of the windshield, no?

Though this is technically what they mean, (took me a while to figure it out) they could have worded it much better.
ie: Mounted on the windoshield of the motorcycle facing the rider/rear of the bike
But that's politics for you, never a straight answer...

Does anyone know if you can use the Melb etags with the Syndey Roads, or vica-versa? Will it bill your same account or are they totally seperate systems using the same technology? |
