Originally Posted by The Sook How was it? I still have black model here for $19k on road. One orderly line at the door please. haha | Just got back then.....did 3 sessions on both my bike and the new Blade. Mine is now rather different from standard ( revalved and re-sprung front, Ohlins rear, PCIIIR and Micron Full....plus the obligatory damper....and running Rennsports )....and initially the new bike felt very different it terms of handling ( as you would expect ). The ride was softer and the bike would dive rather a lot under braking ( but not how I remember the old bike doing on standard springs )....but I think this was just getting used to the new brakes, which are so strong it has gotta be some sort of overkill for the street. Intially I got no feel from them, probably due to the cold morning ?....but as things warmed up everything got better. As the day wore on I REALLY started to like the new bike......you can literally feel the road surface underneath you. I DID find that the front wanted to run wide into the faster corners....so you had to be a bit more agressive about getting over the front of it. The power was very smooth, and you really don't get the impression of how fast you are going until you look at the speedo. My bike is geared down one tooth at the front, but both bikes were indicating the same speed at the end of the straight ( around 275-280 ).....accounting for speedo error this puts the new bike around 10-15km/h faster.
By the end of the day I was lapping ( in some VERY SLOW traffic ) around 5 seconds off my best on the '03 ( with track fairing ).....so I'd say it is VERY likely that the new bike would absolutely walk all over mine with only a few mods.
Mike

| Re: Bladeblast Sydney 7/5... Damn, what a day..
I had 2 rides on each, in the afternoon. The first session on my bike was very messy and sllow. It had been ages since I rode at Eastern creek, and I was also getting the "I don't wanna drop my bike" jitters. The 1st session on the 04 was amazing. It felt comfortable straight away, and the bike seems connected directly to your brain, it just does what you want. I didn't notice the front end going wide as Mickyboy noted (but he probably rides harde rthan I do - I only saw 260 at the end of the straight)
I didn't really find the new bike that much mor epowerful. I reached about 260km/h at the end of the straight on both bikes. what I did notice was those brakes. I want'em!
I also found I leaned further on the 04 bike, I have about 1mm of chicken strip left it was about 5mm before today) but I actually briefly touched my knee on the ground with the 04 bike. Didn't measure lap time, but my guess is I may have been a touch faster on the new bike. Lillith did say I looked way faster and more comfortable on the 03 bike at the end of the main straight and running into turn one. Though I felt about the same with both bikes. would love some more laps!!!

| Re: Bladeblast Sydney 7/5... lol nah that wasnt mine ( you mean the one without the fairing? ) although I was talking to that guy, he walked into my pit and was telling me how he had a 954 but "rats" had goten at his bike ( Im thinking now Ive heard it all) then when I went out the back I saw it and couldnt belive it! he said he had been keeping it at a friends place and they had also chewed through some of his wiring harness as well, I was tempted to say "where does your friend live? In the sewer? but I refrained! |

| Re: Bladeblast Sydney 7/5... I saw that bike too......mustn't be riding it much....or a SERIOUS rodent problem at his place !!
I agree about the pegs....or at least...those ridiculous hero blobs......was dragging them on turns 2, 3, 4, 5 etc etc.....and I hang off rather a bit too !!
Was thinking about it a bit more....and I DID notice the difference in weight between bikes just a little ( although the full system on mine would add to the weight difference )....changing directions between turns 2 and 3....and also between 6 and 7 needed a bit more " effort "
Mike

| Re: Bladeblast Sydney 7/5... It felt fantastic on the change of direction between turn 2 and 3. Also loved T1, T4, T5, T8 and T9 I felt most comfortable on the faster turns need to polish up a little on a couple of low speed turns like the flip flops at T7 and T11. Cant wait to go to the track again it was great! |

| Re: Bladeblast Sydney 7/5... Close but no cigar! Its actually "Jai" pronounced Jye, I might as well change it to Jay as that seems to be the way its usually interpreted! Now I guess its a dead give away how I got the nick? |

Full Arata system, Arata rear sets, and suspension valving, with a PC and mapping, and it's "bye bye everything" time me thinks. |
