| Re: Best ride day of the 15th and 16th of May in Melbourne Another Solo day. But according to brennyP's PM I did actually bump into him around 3:30 yesterday as he came out of Coles while I was getting a drink.
All in all it was a good weekend, added about 50% more Ks onto the bike taking it from about 1060 to 1580.
Friday night I caught up with my mate with the GSXR1000, had a nice 2am spirited run in along the south eastern, Damn can the 1000RR move and pull. My mate said he was struggling just to keep touch with me (and he's the mad barstard.). We also played with swivelling the bikes on the side stand and found that the mass centralisation idea seems to pay off big time when doing that.
Saturdays weather was great.....just too many cars pulling speed boats with water pouring out that back, logging trucks and your garden variety car on the spur.
Saturday I scrubbed off another 1.5 cm on the rear tires (first time on some proper twisties at speed) but I've still got to scrub off another 3cm or so.
Sunday heading to Healesville running late as I always am, I found the point where a WOT in first off the lights takes the front wheel past the point of being "light". I didn’t get any rain until I was sitting the the pub on top of a heater, then it had a bit of a break until I got about 1/2 back into the city and I got some light rain for about 10 minutes.
I didn't do a run on the spur on Saturday, couple of reasons it was wet and cold. After sitting on the heater and having a massive lasagne I was sleepy and I was woken up this morning by a dream where I dropped the bike taking an easy right in the wet (I don't normally remember my dreams so I took it as a sign not to push it for another spur run this weekend).
It’s good to have finally done the first service....before all I could see of the bike was how stable it was...now I'm starting to see how much “GO” it has.
But its all being delivered in moderated doses until I can find a track school. But that’s probably not going to happen until after winter now.
I also pulled off the tank cover and seat to see if I can workout where to fit my new alarm but so far there doesn't seem to be too much spare space. I think I might contact their Melbourne installer and see if they have any ideas. |

| Re: Best ride day of the 15th and 16th of May in Melbourne I had a call this morning at 9.00 to help take a learner and novice ride for our club, I met them in pearcedale at 9.50 and headed up to lang lang, up through nyora, poowong and then to kurromburra, had a coffee and some breakfast (long story), came back via loch, then cross country to poowong, nyora, lang lang etc.
Copped a few drops of rain and some semi wet roads, but we were home by 1.30 and beat the rain by about an hour.
It's hard to organise rides this time of year due to the weather, but if guys are interested, i can let you know when our club organises rides |

Seriously that would be good.....Might help me hone my skills a little with some tutelage and I can impress upon the learners and novice riders the importance of actually wearing good gear and being wary of the wildlife. But I bet that's pretty much covered.
Luckily I was in the pub sitting on top of a heater eating lunch when the main part of the rain hit and there were only a few lightish showers on the way home. |

| Re: Best ride day of the 15th and 16th of May in Melbourne The start times vary according to the time of year and the expected distance they need to travel, we have had some leave at 7.30 or 8.00am and not return home to 7.30 at night , but normally home by 4-5.00 pm.
The novice rides are normally only for a few hours so they start a little later.
If you ever want to go one of the club rides, you could meet me at my place in langwarrin (near frankston) and we could ride down to mornington together, rather than turning up to a heap of people you do not know, not thet you've met me yet. |

I don't normally get to sleep until about 3am. But for you ratter I'll see if I can make and exception. By the sounds on it I should start with a noice group, I was pretty stuffed after the 300 odd kays I did on Saturday and I had heaps of breaks.....riding for a full day would be agony.
So I guess I have to build up to Iron Butt status slowly. |

some of the day rides may only be 300 klms but most of it would be twisties, but not at a maniac pace, some of the guys are just speed limit type people |

So wat's your opinion of the new blade? I have heard that the front end is rock stable when pushed hard around corners do you find that? The reason I'm asking is that my all time favourite bike was the 94 zxr750 simply because I had complete trust in the front end and the thing was always planted. I am thinking about getting another bike soon and the bikes that I have in mind are as follows:
Honda cbr1000rr, Ducati 749s, Suzuki gsxr750 or the Kawasaki zx10r.
I was leaning towards the ducati simply because of the above aspect, but hearing that the blade has a similar feel has got me intrigued and wanting to sample.
Glad to hear your thoughts on this.

Solid as a rock, my only concern with cornering is all the rain, the metal tram tracks and getting my eye back in after 2 years off a bike. How solid the bike is, was the first thing that really THRILLED me about it. And like you have complete trust in the bike because of it.
To be honest through I'd have to say that I haven't pushed it really hard around any corners, (still about 2-3cm of tire to be scrubbed on the edge) but going around the spur last weekend it was bolted to the ground even when it got to the ripped up corners at the end of the run and I scuffed another 1-2 cm on the rear. I wish there was less cars, just as you are getting into a rhythm the pop up and had to slow down. Like BrennyP says I'll have to go for spur run during the week so there are less slow coaches.
The only time that the tires have let go was during the first ride when I gave it a lot of throttle after a fast corner before I straightened the bike back up. The back wheel stepped out but then gripped and the bike just took off. But that gave me a more a sense of the bike looking after me rather than a 'holy hell I'm going to die' type feeling. During all this the front was glued.
In fact it's pretty hard to convince the front to let go even under straight line power delivery, you *really* have to want it to raise to get it to go anywhere.
So in summary, Solid as a rock! |
