| Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! It appears that NSW bikes need to have a sticker on any Aftermarket exhausts, otherwise you cop a $200 fine. http://www.mccofnsw.org.au/a/68.html
The big catch is if you are a Victorian or from any other state or territory and don't have the sticker then you cop the fine anyway. Even though there isn't a similar requirement within your home state or territory.
Discussion of the issue is here (make sure you work through all the replies) http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/MRA_Forum/message/1953 http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/MRA_Forum/message/1957
Anyone from NSW or another state who has been done by this? |

In the U.S., our vehicle laws are either 'local', 'state', or 'nationally' enforced (enforcement is based on where you reside). None of this entrapment crap you guys are dealing with.
Good luck with the BillyBobs mate! |

If you are victorian with a vic license, vic rego on your bike with vic plates, there is NO WAY they could fine you for a law that is outside of your jurisdiction! That is a NSW law for NSW registered bikes, blow me officer (don't forget to spit, rinse and repeat) |

| Re: Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! Um, I'm pretty sure they can. Otherwise how do you get done for speeding etc? Good on ya if they can't though. But it's a good rule. Think about it.....you buy an exhaust, you buy a sticker for it, you get it engraved with the information to make it legal, and you get pulled over. Cop can't do ****. You're sweet. Now, in VIC, you get pulled over, and they say "that pipe isn't standard, no baffle, you're nicked" what can you do? You got nuthin'. Haha |

| Re: Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! Back in 1997 I did a "Jam to Jupiters" ride on my zxr750. It's kinda like a cannonball run for bikes, where the first rider to arrive in the gold coast from sydney gets $4K cash. The departure was 6pm from "cafe de wheels". I got to the gold coast at 5.00am, a mate with a radar detector, jammer, and a radar detector detector detector ( ) got there at 2am
Anyway my point is the cops got hold of it at gave us a hard time all along the pacific. I got pulled over 6 times and the fockers where everywhere. I got done for obstructing the number plate with the rego sticker and also for having an illegal exhaust. Mind you it was a straight through pipe that sounded horn! When I got back to Melbourne I had no choice but to pay the fine otherwise I would have had to go to court for sure. Believe me I made plenty of enquiries about it.

| Re: Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! I have a micron on my 954 and one of the things that it states in the documentation that comes with it is that it puts out XX decibels (102 if I remember correctly) and also that its not for road use. So it you want to get down to it then my can is illegal in Victoria. But in reality because the can does not conform to Australian Design Rules (exceeds max decibels) then the can is actually illegal in all states of Australia. However they are less forgiving in NSW and can and will fine you for it.. |

| Re: Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! Yeah but every day cops don't have noise testing equipment on them, so if you have the label, and it states that the db rating is legal, then you're sweet.
As for vic and nsw laws not applying, they DO. I got done in Vic on the way to the g.p one year. I got back, 3 months later got the fine, brushed it, then got a letter saying I had to go to some court in the middle of bumfuk idahoe in Vic, which I just paid a solicitor to go for me...............then I got pulled over back here (nsw) for a breath test, they checked my licence, and said I had a warrant out for my arrest. They let me go, but I had to go to a station and pay some fine or some crap to get it lifted, otherwise, if I got stopped in Vic again etc, they'd lock me up. DAMN. And I didn't even know. haha |

Cops in Oz can bust you for a legal (even OEM) pipe if they personally percieve you to be using the bike in such a way as to create excessive noise eg hitting the red line in first in a city street ('course on a blade you'd be doing 130 but I digress). The legislation that covers excessive noise is separate to the epa noise testing stuff and doesn't just apply to bikes or even motor vehicles.
BTW I must come and get a sticker off you for my Micron sometime Sook. |

| Re: Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! Yeah, but I doubt that if you were pulled over for noise, and the cop checked your bike and you showed them the label with the noise test results, that they would or could still fine you. And I think those noise rules you speak of are only before and after certain times. eg: you can play music in your house as loud as you like, until 9pm (I think) THEN they can start turning **** off.
But what you say is right in a way. If you're sensible, and don't ride around at 6am on Sunday morning redlining every gear etc, you're pretty well safe. Oh yeah......and don't go up the old road. Hahaha |

| Re: Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! If you have a noisy pipe on your bike, and you get pulled over by a cop not carrying the testing devices (which most police cars do actually have in NSW) they can write you out a defect notice that gives you 7 days to go and get it tested and prove that it is below the limit. This doesnt carry a fine, unless you fail to get it tested. |

| Re: Watch out Vics, NSW will screw you!!! I know in Lismore (northern NSW) on a thursday night they used to have about 5 cars and bikes getting around sending anything with aftermarket ANYTHING to the RTA to be inspected (i got sent there a few times in my 1600 and on my XR). If they found anything wrong then they could eithe fine you, or give you a week to fix it. |

OK, if they're REALLY out to get you, maybe. BUT if you get pulled over for rbt or something in general, and they check your pipe and see the label with the noise test info on it etc, I hardly think you're gonna get done. I'm the same as you CB, I've been pulled over on a RSV with a Akra pipe that was loud as, as well as SP2 with Micron slip ons, also loud as hell, at night in a built up area. But I was just coasting through, trying to make as little noise as possible. They pulled me over, checked my licence and let me go. Like you and I both said, you just gotsta be sensible about it. haha |
