Heads Up Melbourne

A heads up for all melbourne riders....there has been a copper sitting on Alexandra Pde, city bound side booking riders for using the bicycle lane. He got me the other day....$70 no points...tho he said if any riders give him lip he does them for passing on the left....$205 and 3 points....he wasnt a bad bloke...so if he gets u be polite...he also moves around....ive seen him near smith st and brunswick st aswell....

He also said that the police are currently petitioning Vic Roads to make it legal for us to use the bike lanes....fingers crossed....

Thanks Cowboy!!! I've used that bike lane the past two mornings and only one other morning since I've had the bike. Must just have been lucky to miss him but then again I was heading in pretty close to lunch time.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Does anyone find that ironic, he agrees that we should be able to use bike lanes but still gives you a ticket

They should be using discretion and if what you are doing is not dangerous turn a blind eye. How long does it take to get law changed (especially those that earn revenue)?

The cops regualrly have blizzes in that particular area, for various things usually solo drives using the express lane and cars in the safety lane after 9:30am, my guess would be ihe has been specifically assigned to that spot for that reason.

It funny you say that. My excuse for using it was that its the safest place to be....he agreed that its sensible to use it, and that we should be able to, but we cant so he booked me....I didnt say anything cause i didnt want to be a smartass, police generally dont like that

He was there again this morning....and there was a bike and car on the eastern about 500 metres from the hoddle st exit nabbing bikes using the left hand emergency lane...they had an R1 and zx-9 pulled over. There was also a cop bike in the right hand lane getting people in the transit lane.

Re: Heads Up Melbourne

So if a biker gets killed by a cage when travelling in the traffic when he could have been safe in a cage free zone it is ok? And the cop agrees it is a sensible place to be but still gives you a ticket.

That is one ****ed up system.

What about the poor guy on the push bike getting muscled from his lane! Plus Bicycle Victoria is a far more powerful lobby group than MRAA is at the moment. Which is unfortunately because Motorcycles are getting screwed atm, Rego in Vic has more than doubled in 3 years, front number plates and citylink charges, $50 levy, wire barriers etc, etc, while there are bike lanes getting installed all over the place.
