I'll have to calculate the costs/savings of importing the bike. I initially thought that it wouldn't be too expensive... toss it in a container along with my computers and clothing and away I go. However, my buddy tells me the costs are extremely high to ship stuff that far. Hmph. If I sell my baby here, I'll take a bath - 929's did not retain their value. Then again... I guess it would be a good excuse to buy a new bike!
Just as an update, I have made contact with the hiring manager and apparently they haven't received my resume yet but are interested to chat with me to see if we can swing a deal.
I was up north fishing with my cousin this weekend and he was telling me about his adventures in Australia. His wife and he both agreed that Sydney was the place to go... I'm like, "WHAT?! My Aussie friends don't like it..." They said Melbourne was nice "if you like the artsy scene" and to stay away from "Can-brah" (I suppose I was mispronouncing it. d'oh) but they enjoyed Sydney the most. I think I'll still attempt to start out in Melbourne...
Now you guys will have to help me with the local sayings and my new Aussie accent. Is here a good place to start? http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/...92/ozslang.htm |

| Re: If I were an Aussie... Ok... "no wuckers" is the only one I haven't caught so far.
gunichan: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA That's pretty funny.
edit: Well... it appears that there is a job opening in Canberra. The whole "Where should I work" discussion might be a moot point. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed... now how 'bout a VISA?!

| Re: If I were an Aussie... Yet another update... they pretty much offered me a position that starts Oct. 1. Unfortunately, 2-3 weeks to sell the bike, car and find an renter for my condo plus figure out where the hell I would live once I did move not to mention the logistics of plane tickets, shipping... it just wasn't feasible.
I have the option to take a position that will be available "in the new year" so I have opted for that. I know there is a chance that it won't come through so I'm not holding my breath and will continue to job hunt.
Time to start the process of preparation... |

| Re: If I were an Aussie... How do you handle that method of turning around trams, what is it, keep left then turn right?? Riding over those tram lnes in the wet would be a lot of fun to!
I originally prefered Sydney to Melbourne but these days a lot of Sydney people seem to have an attitude problem, but there again one should not generalise. They are both cities anyway and cities have their good points and their bad.... Drove through Sydney a couple of weeks ago on the way to the airport, yikes those roads are crap and narrow!
Anyway i prefer Perth!
