Typical statement I expect from a bean counter at the financial review.
Of course, what the do gooders do not realise, is that we actually WANT to ride bikes. I don't do it for cheap transport. I don't wanta Korean car. I can already afford it. They also neglect to mention that the proportion of new rididers getting into accidents has significantly been reduced since the introduction of rider training.
If they are that keen to cut the road toll to 0 - how about banning ALL motorised forms of transport from the roads. Not to mention pushbikes. And hey, people trip and fell and hit their heads. Let's ban walking too...

That stinks Zee. I hope your motorcyclist community speaks up and shuts those jokers down. Some of the rules and regulations that these jokers come up with just baffles me. Makes you wonder if they ever left their basement as a kid, or if they do so even now. |

HA! sorry for that. I certainly wish our governments could find a way to cut some fat so they don't have to raise taxes so dang high. |

Luckily, I don't think a move like this will get far, though, having said that, Victoria has done a wonderful job of getting the $50 safety tax in for the motorcycle rego.
Speaking of trimming some fat to stop raising tax, I happenned to drive past about 4 roadworks areas today, and am always amazed at the supervisor/worker ratio. there always seems to be about 10 people standing around with blank looks while one poor guy is breaking his back with a shovel...

Z... | Yer all the forums and offical riding bodies down here have pounched on it and torn it to shreads....we just had the toyrun so Riders are sitting pretty with the media at the moment and The finacial Review isn't thought of too well by riders.
We have been paying the extra $50 levy for EVERY bikes (some are paying numerous times if they own more than one bike), 2006 there is a sunset clause which with any luck so end the levy. But VMAC sound like they think its a good thing (they get to play with the levy money though) so it might stick. |

Oh but the good news is no front number plates in victoria, why? Cost to high to implement and would take far to long to get their money back via fines, ahhhh I'm so glad I live in victoria, my government is so concerned about my safety |

Exactly, people don't understand it's a slow process of losing freedoms...today it's one you don't care about. But next, you never know. |

Yer heard the same thing about FNP, they wouldn't recoup the revenue so it was ditched but apparently FNP on bikes has been raised federally now.
As far as I knoew Tinted visors have technically never been legal....none of them have the Australian Standards sticker because the tint/smoked effect effects visibility during night riding. But on a sunny day or even as the sun is setting they come into thier own, and as others have pointed out sun glasses under a clear visor can do alot of harm in an accident so I would expect not much to happen about this....status quo will remain......they aren't technically legal but no one enforces it because they are a must/benefit in certain situations. |

Z... | I'm not trying to say we're doing better than you guys. (although I think, for now, we are) More referring to the worldwide effort to ban guns. Once that is over, the same elitists will figure out another way to gain more power by "protecting you" by banning something else. I think you're seeing that a bit...and I certainly don't blame you for not liking it.
The Patriot Act is definately terrible. But I don't think opposition to it has been exactly quiet. It is being challenged legally in many respects, and I look forward to the possibility that there might be other politicians, not in favor of banning even more freedoms, like Kerry, that I can vote for in the future to get the bastards who voted in favor of this legislation out of office.
That law was passed 45 days after 9-11. The pansies in Congress were too afraid of looking weak on terror to even debate the damned bill.
I think on this site you'll see lots of people say, "why should I worry about these laws, I'm not a criminal" Or, "I'm not a biker, so why should I care?" ACLU is Challenging CA Prop 69 (the DNA bank)
So more and more of these laws get passed.
