Forgot how slippery tram tracks could be even in the dry but only caused self a minor heart attack rather than any tangible damage . Looks like I'll be back in Melbourne permanently in 6 weeks - so more time to ride, especially until I find myself a new contract.

First year of insurance ran out last week (it was Nelly, my bike's, birthday on Sunday and binned it on the monday......nice present I got her hey?) and I change insurers last week....don't think they'll like me making a claim 2 days into dealing with them.

Also since I was trying to reduce my premiums and I'm normally a level headed rider I decided to take on a $1000 voluntary excess taking it to a grand total of $1500 excess, I think the replacement fairings should come in under that so I'll try and avoid claiming on insurance if I can.

Yer I had a couple of cracks in the fairing on the same side from a previous incident with a car stopped at a set of lights. so at least I kept the damage to that same side.

When you get down here you should check out www.netrider.net.au and come down for a coffee on Friday

Glad to hear your allright, I hate left handers went way wide on my first one on sunday, just luck there was nothing coming the other way.
Scraped plastic gives you hard core stunta props, don't fix it too quick you'll lose your cred
The look goes well with my skidding stoppies

Not sure the oz firestormers guy will get much sympathy considering he wasn't really riding sensibly....nor do I expect any sympathy for my off for the same reason. Its Bugger you, were stuck in that situation.....but I bet 'noddy' was glad you were there even after you speech about keeping his neck still.

Usually I'm a big fan of the left hander but this time I didn't really get a chance to lay into it......there is a slight thought I could have got around but I seriously doubt even at FULL lean I could have pulled it around.

Looks like she's about to eat HIM? May be an NSW pic there!

Rash looks pretty bad but some fresh plastic will make most of the ugliness go away. Didn't read the whole thread but how long did that rig slide?

Sorry to hear of your mishap, Matt, but glad you're ok. Mashed plastic does look bad, doesn't it? Replacable at a price, as you know.

About 10 metres across rough gravel and big chunky stones....but the bike copped a big thump when the stoppie turned into a sidey soon after I hit the gravel.

Mashed plastic is far better than gouged and twisted metal.

The handlebars and forks are out as I suspected....could be and expensive set of forks or a cheap unclamp and reclamp which decides if I loose my insurance rating rather than fixing it myself.

Re: matt232 goes rubber side up

Damn... That's more damage than I thought. I hope you can get that sorted without too much financial trouble.

One question though... You guys all have mega-tail-bag-trunks. I've never seen that here and would probably get my ass kicked for having one. Is it common over there? Or is it just because you were on a 3-day? Does that much weight on the rear change the handling dramatically? I usually try to put the heavy items in a tank bag instead to provide the weight up front.

Speaking of riding in/near Melbourne, do you guys have many local tracks or is it mostly street?

3 day ride was part of it but I always have mine on during the week to ferry my laptop back and forth to work (magnets and laptops as well as magnets and plastic tanks don't mix). On the weekend the rack comes off and the L brackets remain or you can add a grab rail for a pillion. Ventura Racks are pretty common over here for people who ride daily.

No great impact on handling as long as its not sticking out the back of the bike, most people face thier racks towards the rider so its effectly like have a very small and well behaved pillion.

Phillip Island, Winton and Broadford (all are about 1-2hr drive from Melb) aren't too far away and there are generally track days most weeks even if most of them are during the week.

Plenty of options for street riding as well, reefton and black spurs are nice, a run along the Great ocean road is great too. Or if you have a few days heading into the alpine region for multiday fun.

http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/glitch1/Tours/

http://ariel.ucs.unimelb.edu.au/~ben/mtcv/mcroads/

bit of a list of track days

http://www.cr-x.org/cbr250/forum/top...TOPIC_ID=20387

but that doesn't include HRCA, hangmore, kawa, ausmoto, OC.MC etc organised days.

Sorry about your downing.
In the After pics. How in the hell do you get in that car?? Do you have to go through the sun roof?

In the Before pics. Was that a voluntary stop with the group or did the officer have a better reason?

Spin bike on the side stand and wheel it out......then there is about a 0.5 metre gap between wall and car which you can easily walk down and open the door.

The my bike and car are a tight fit but they do fit. Just a pain in the arse when I once in a blue moon need to use the car.

Mitch laid the bike over hard and went through a roundabout flat out (but under the speed limit) this attracted a warning from the cops. The rest of us had out license checked and breath tests for the hell of it. No tickets were issued.

The group could have kept going and pull over further on but we stopped as a group so tehy decided to take the opurtunity to check us all out.

Dry rider/ cordura pants and jacket (jacket second time in a major off) did fantastically. my elbow and kneee have slight scratches on them. I've got a sore left shoulder, left knee and left shin. Limping a little (I stupidly jogged about 5 paces on the weekend after it felt so good and then someone decided I needed treatment so they been rubbing crap into it...both of these things I think haven't done me any favours) but otherwise I'm far better off than I probably should be.

Just changed insurers about 4 days before the accident and paying a $1350 premium with a $1500 excess. Should be interesting how that changes since now it seems that I will be claiming on insurance.

yeah its a nice new bike you might aswell get it all sweet again... if you wanted to you could just buy race fairings get them plainted a real nice dark blue(like mine) and get 954 stickers and then it will never crash
nah glad ya sweet... i crashed a few times in an old dryrider gortex jacket and come off pretty good... i always do the twisties in jeans, leather jacket and alpinestar boots and gloves...so all should be fine bar my legs and knees if i come off... its a pitty all the dragonjeans look so sh#t and fit bad or id get some for sure
