| OK Aussies, explain something for me. Aussie Rules Football.
I'm watching it on tv for the first time and there don't appear to be any rules, except beat the snot out of the guy with the ball.
It's entertaining but I'm thouroughly confused. |

| Re: OK Aussies, explain something for me. Not quite the start stop and no definate line of defense kind setup you're used to?
This might help on the general stuff http://users.nex.net.au/users/kingstar/afl/rules.html Offical Website has some tips and tactics which might shed some more light on things as well. |

| Re: OK Aussies, explain something for me. It was an odd mix of soccer (I know, I know), football (again, I know) and oddly enough...volleyball. Very fast paced.
Thanks for the link, that cleared things up a bit. I was, however, surprised at the very high scores. |

Got any specific questions?
We are getting to the pointy end of the season too so the one day in September isn't too far off.
Also check out the combination of Gaelic Footy and Aussie Rules, International Rules, it and Gaelic footy isn't any slouch either. |

| Re: OK Aussies, explain something for me. Now if you want to see a real "mans" game? Rugby league (not Rugby Union) is the game to watch |

| Re: OK Aussies, explain something for me. Jungleboy, I always liked this one (to the tune of "amore"):
When you're sat on your arse
with a mouth full of grass
that's A Morley
When you're hit with a bomb
it's a 6ft 4 pom
that's A Morley
BTW how's the cricket going? What's that? You've had to follow on. I don't belieeeeeve it!! |

| Re: OK Aussies, explain something for me. There are only 32 rules in football. It's also great for getting your 6 times table spot on.
You can barrak (back/root) for any team other than collingwood, they wear the black and white, they are the Denver Broncos of AFL |

| Re: OK Aussies, explain something for me. I agree, crap game to watch, but awesome to play. Played it for a few years in highschool and just out of. Pretty hard too, as in tough game. Lots of hits, lots of "off the ball naggin and pain in the arse stuff' that you don't see on the tv. Your opposit plaer is with you the whole game and it's all about using the intimidation or copping that, to your advantage. But I tell ya what, there's nothin quite a painful than being in the air, arms over your head and copping a shoulder into the ribs. But apart from how it looks, lots of rules. If you can, try and get out and play it somewhere, or go watch a local team train etc, you'll love it. |
