41.4° C in Sydney right now!

Man it's hot! I just spent the last hour and a half riding home, it is insane when it is cooler to keep your visor down and your jacket zipped up than to let the air flow through!

And yet Perth's maximum yesterday (New Year's eve) was only 21 degrees when it's usually more like 35. We've had the coldest December on record (which made my motorcycle holiday through the South-West very pleasant indeed! )

Paying bills and laundry then planning a zip up to Lynchburg on the back roads. Tomorrow is supposed to be 69 so I am trying to figure something a bit further (thought about the Gap but not sure what it will be east and at altitude)

Re: 41.4° C in Sydney right now!

Actually, it hit 45+ degrees C at Sydney airport, apparantly.

NorthernRR - I'd gladly swap. I'm a winter person and -9 Cegrees C is very much in my comfort zone. the only good part about these hot summers is the fact I live 5 minutes from the beach. the beach all the backpackers and uni girls go to I'd take pics, but we can't post NWS stuff now, can we

Re: 41.4? C in Sydney right now!

Wow! Glad I left! I was in Manly the last two years until Nov, now I am in Colorado and we are having a record year for snow in the mountains but it is 60-70 F at home. Perfect weather here. But I heard the surfing Santa's were cool on Christmas in syd?

Re: 41.4° C in Sydney right now!

Got a bit carried away on the Bureau of Meteorology's website and came across this about Port headland in WA. 160 consecutive days above 37.8c (100F)

"
This region contains some of Australia's consistently hottest places. Marble Bar recorded 160 consecutive days of 100F (37.8C) or more in the period 31 October 1923 - 7 April 1924. Marble Bar has an average daily maximum temperature of 38C or more for all the months from November - March. Only on the coast is there some relief to the summer heat provided by sea breezes. The normal inland maximum temperature range in summer is 37-42C. The coast, such as at Port Hedland, is 2-3C cooler but usually more humid. Several days with 45C maximum temperatures occur each year. Winter maximum temperatures are mild/warm with temperatures in the 23-27C range in the south grading to 25-30C in the north. Minimum temperatures range from 25C in midsummer to 12C in July near the coast and 8-12C inland. Winter is a short 6-8 week period and retreats quickly by late August. "

I think that you are the first rider that I have heard of who prefers winter?

Saw peak of 43 degrees and steady 41 degree while driving East to North West of Melbourne just short of Tullamarine on New Years Eve....

What is it with Airports being the hottest spots in each town?

Probably because they're a large concrete jungle with no shade thus as the air goes over it it tends to heat up. Just an idea ... ?? Either that or they are built in hot **** holes.
