| Re: insurance.. I got a quote from Shannons which was very good but you really have to read the fine print, lots of grey! Also unless you have been riding and insured for 5 years they won't take you, like I said check the fine print they will take your money but claim....hmmm
Western QBE is good, had them last 2 years, Swann isn't to bad either, just get a quote through a dealer as they don't deal directly with the public.
As for AAMI RACV etc give em a call but be sitting down when they tell you the premium, I thought the same thing when I turned 25, cheaper for sure but now most of them go to 30 before the rates drop!
Good luck, happy shopping |

| Re: insurance.. Personally I don't bother. The premium costs added up over the years and the depreciation of the bike mean that insurance costs can just about buy a replacement bike anyway. It's definitely a risk but that's the way the insurance companies make their dough, by assessing and taking on risk. The question I asked myself is can I afford to lose this bike and go out an buy another one (even though it would piss me off mightily). 3rd party fire and theft policies used to be good but most companies don't offer them anymore and the ones that do have jacked the hell out of the premiums so what to do??? dang. |

| Re: insurance.. I'm with Western QBE - premiums seem pretty reasonable, and apart from being a bit slow (8 - 10 weeks) to prcess the claim for my written-off 929 I found them OK to deal with. Gave me a good market price pay out for the 929 and deposited the money straight into my bank account.
I looked at Shannons, but found it all got a bit hard...
I have some sympathy for what Seawild1 is saying - that's what I used to do in NZ, but I guess these days the thought of having my bike pinched through no fault of my own is enough for me to insure it...and as for 3PFT, the premiums I've been quoted are about $5 per year cheaper the full cover !
Cheers, Spanky. |

| Re: insurance.. Get lots of quotes - they'll vary a good deal.
Lots of insurers now have websites with forms to enter your details to get a quote. And yes, read the policy details - they vary a lot too. A bit of homework can save you lots of $$.
A mate with Swann took ages to get his claim processed; with Arista I had a dream run (but on a 40+ policy I'm afraid).
Not bother insuring? No thanks. A 30kph front-end wash out and slide wrote off my last ride ... $11k of damage; payout was $13,500. Premium around $650 a year (yeah, ok, old phart discount, but still.) |
