Aussie tracks

Where's the best scene in Australia? As in twisty roads and at least one track within driving distance. I know the weather is nice probably all year and the women are babes for sure! But what area would be most fun to be around?

Re: Aussie tracks

Lets see.... Highway 1 from South Australia ( Adelaide is a good place to start! ) across to Victoria ( Melbourne - State Capital ) taking in The Great Ocean Road along the way!!! then down through the Gipplsland region following the South East Coast then swinging North to New South Wales ( Sydney - State Capital ) you could finish in Sydney.... or you could continue on to Queensland ( Brisbane - State Capital ) that little 'day trip' should take you about 2 weeks... approx. 2000miles Adelaide to Brisbane...

all jokes aside, while in Victoria you have access to some of the best riding roads in the world... and Vic is fairly compact... most rides are accessable within a days ride of Melbourne... for instance Melbourne to the Victorian Alpine area 4 hrs ( 1 way ) easy 1 day loop...

Hopefully others will fill you in on their suggestions...

If you want more specific details.... let me know....

Stay Upright!!!

Re: Aussie tracks

Happy to help Craving

In Victoria the following are the main Tracks ( although there are a few other tracks that are used at club level but Not at National or International level )

Calder Park Raceway is about 40-50mins N-NW of Melbourne, Calder Park Motorsport - Calder Park Raceway

Sandown International Raceway is East about the same travel time, http://www.sandownraceway.com.au/

Winton Raceway is about 2-2.5hrs North of Melb. on Highway 31 ( Hume Highway ) Winton Motor Raceway - Home

And of course Phillip Island... which is about 3hrs S-SE of Melb.
. : Phillip Island Circuit - Home : .

The above websites should give you a fair rundown on facilities and track layouts...

Yes the Coast road is a one awesome ride.... try the following link for some info on part of the Vic ride... The Great Ocean Road Home Page

If you are coming out to ride a couple of things to remember... watch out for the local wildlife on the roads!!! early morning and dusk are the most dangerous times for this... ( Kangaroo's, Koala's, Wombats may look cute and cuddly but are NO fun to hit with any type vehicle!!! )

And we drive on the Left side of the road!!!

Hope this helps!

Re: Aussie tracks

I'm a Sydney sider - Eastern Creek (former 500gp track) and many good roads (Kangaroo valley and Mac Pass, Putty road, Old Road etc.. but it's pretty hard to beat Melbourne I think - The Black Spur is my favourite piec of road (and getting there wasn't half bad either) and then you have Phillip Island as a track - hard to beat. shame about the weather...

Re: Aussie tracks

good posts!
Lots of stuff to look at.
I'm gonna do some searches for industy in Melbourne. I filled out a survey to see if I qualified to get a work visa as a toolmaker Australia and it said I did qualify even without a sponsor. Injection moulding is my specialty and this area is fubared. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to make it over there but even if not it's nice reading for the winter.
Driving on the left would be scary though!!

It's easy. It usually takes me about 10 minutes to adjust driving on back streets wqhen I go to North America or Europe.. The wierd thing is that the door is on the wrong side - and the first few times I go to change gear, I end up opening the door (I'm a chronic "Will only drive a stick shift" type of person)...

But apart from that...

Re: Aussie tracks

No... we usually just toss a coin at the start of a meet ... to decide which way we're gonna run the track! ( it's much more interesting that way!!! )

Re: Aussie tracks

Make sure you get down to Tasmania for a couple of weeks. Its Australian motorcyclists Mecca. Never ending bends and thinly policed. If you are heading that way i can send you some more info on great roads. Weather can be a bit bad in winter.
