Blow me. Canada is sooo much worse man. Paying like well over 5 grand for my insurance just for my bike a year and the ****ing thing is almost 20 years old!

Re: INSURANCE

Insurance? What is this insurance you speak of?

I figured that spending $1600 a year on a bike worth around $5-6k was kinda pointless. What I've saved over the past 4 years has paid for the bike.

That said, if I were to get insurance it would prolly be with Western WBE. Ive heard good things about them. Shannons are cheap....if you only take you bike out of the humidified, alarmed, locked down and bricked in lounge room of your house only on days ending in @. Yes, in @.

I was with Arista once upon a time. They charged me $1200 one year which was reasonable...the next year they gave me an extra 15% (up to 45%) NCB and bumped my premium up to $1650....go figure.

Re: INSURANCE

Your Age is what is making it expensive.

I'm insured with Arista, Agreed value full comp @$650 p/year. I was quoted up to $1500.00 by others.

Best bet is to shop around , spend a few hours on the phone or net it could save you lot$$$.

Just to make you down-under types a wee jealous, I insured my 954 with full coverage for $300 a year. Once it gets old I'll bag the insurance and just go with liability, but right now its still pretty shiny.

Re: INSURANCE

Western QBE, my bike is insured for $10500 aud, cost $750ish.
I'm 26 with a fairly clean record, no loss of license.

Swann insurance suck the big one if you need to make a claim, shannons is good but only if you dont ride every day.

Thats in WA too, not sure if different state will affect prices.

Re: INSURANCE

Forgot to add - this is from PSB - Perth Street Bikes - The Official Website of The Perth Sports Bike Community - Might be worth a shot. I couldnt get insurance off them as my bike isn't garaged (new house not finished yet)

Dear all,

A few weeks ago I put up a post about Bike Cover Insurance offered by Guardian Underwriting (Underwritten by Lloyds of London).

As you are aware, my house got broken into and the keys to my week old 07 R1 got nicked (after having the policy for only 1 week also).

Well Shannons (the supposed contents insurer for motoring enthusiasts), despite having an enthusiast section within the contents which provided cover to the amount of $10,000 for and I quote:
"Section 4
We will cover you for loss or damage to:
• Automotive Memorabilia and Collectables;
• spare parts and accessories removed from any Vehicle owned by You;
• tools, instruments and equipment used in Motoring, or related
to Your current or former business or occupation;
by any accident or misfortune not excluded by this policy and whilst
kept at Your Address.
",

rejected the claim for replacement of the keys to my bike. Surely the keys, in the normal english interpretation of the word, would be considered equipment or instruments used in motoring......... Well the fight will happen but that will be another story....

Anyway my motorcycle insurer, Guardian Underwriting, came well and truly to the rescue. Within a matter of hours, quotes were sent to them and the claim was approved, including all associated costs of replacing the keys, the ecu, locks, immobiliser etc, the Xena disc lock (to which the bastard theives also stole the keys to), the towing costs to remove the bike from my house as a precaution and deliver to Yamaha and the cost of an interim key that allowed me to unlock the steering lock. No assessor (given the type of claim), no arguments that it should be Shannons, just simply the best after product sales service, sympathy and ongoing assistance you could ever ask for.

So not only were they cheaper than any other insurer by at least half of the next least expensive, but they well and truly have stood by their product and provided me with wonderful service and support.

The process was so simple, one form, have the various parties send quotes to them and approval within hours. All that has to happen now as they have advised of approval is that when the parts arrive, I pay Yamaha my excess, Yamaha and the others send in the balance invoices and Guardian pays them direct, so no painful waiting, as soon as the parts arrive, the work begins and I am back on 2 wheels.

SO a big thank you to Adam Croft and Stephen Reader of Guardian underwriting:

Once again I urge everyone to give them a go at quoting. If you get something bizzarre happening on the online quote, please call Adam direct.

Progressive 1600 full, 260 comp. In my opinion you should try to pay cash or put a lot down so you dont have to put full on when not in use, youll save a ton.

I have Progressive. $367 for comprehensive, and liability with $500 deductable. Collision adds over $1000 a year. I figure I'll save that toward a new bike.

slorider it sounds like you are getting a pretty good deal. How many vehicles do you insure with them? Are you insuring a house or apt with them also?

Re: INSURANCE

Progressive claims that they give you the rates of other companies when you get an online quote from them but in my experience the quotes for other companies haven't been terrible accurate compared to what I have been quoted by the other companies themselves.

For me Progressive was cheapest. I insure two cars and one bike with nothing else like home, renters, life, etc. I have a completely clean record.

I have found cheaper bike insurance with state farm but only if I want to also pay for renters insurance, and life insurance also. So it is technically a better deal but would increase my total yearly insurance bill.
