Canberra Riders?

Hey all I will be moving to Canberra in about a month with my 07 CBR600RR and i'm looking for good places to go riding in the area. Possibly even some people to do some riding with (can't beat riding with friends).

Re: Canberra Riders?

Im up in Sydney a few hours away!
Plenty of nice rides around Canberra - lots of empty country roads, a few hours to the Snowy Mountains.

Good luck with the move!

Are you taking your bike?
Not sure how complicated it is to import a bike (got to be easier than a car, you dont need to change the steering wheel to the other side!)

Re: Canberra Riders?

What brings you to Gods Country my friend ??

The ride up to Sydney from Canberra encompasses some awesome roads to ride from long sweeping cruisy roads to tight twisty mountain rides.

Google Maps Macquarie Pass NSW and you will get the drift, or GINGERS CREEK NSW if you ever do a north coast NSW trip.

Gotta do the Oxley Highway (Gingers Creek) near Pt Macquarie. I live in Old Bar and thats our scratch pad (45 klms of heaven) every other weekend if we can. Give us a yell if you ever get up this way.

Re: Canberra Riders?

Thanks all for the recommended rides..I'll have to find out where they are. I'm headin out to Canberra for 3 years for work. As far as importing the bike, I will be under the diplomatic section so I shouldn't have too many problems getting it in (I hope ) If I do I will just have to buy one when I get there lol.

Anyone give me some advice on the riding weather in the Canberra area? Can I ride year 'round or does it get pretty cold in the winter for riding?

You can ride all year, although during winter which is just around the corner, there will be no ride days because of snow and ice and bad weather. Not as bad as some parts of the planet though!

Re: Canberra Riders?

Definatley rideable all year round in Canberra just bloody cold !!!!!!!! Hoodie under your jacket usually does the trick !!!!!!

Another point is you have a track not to far from you in WAKEFIELD PARK that does cheap track days as well, or else you can ride up to Sydney and do EASTERN CREEK or ORAN PARK the latter being a short technical track that is due for closure at the end of the year but def worth a ride.

Aussie legislation on importing vehicle frames is a nightmare. Waving an invisible brush covered with invisible ink over your frame should make the neccessary structural changes to ensure the frame conforms to ADR's. The brushwork will probably cost a couple of thousand dollars though.

Unless you're part of some Presidential envoy whereby they can't allow you to use a locally sold (and possibly intercepted by terrorists, oooh!) vehicle they won't let the Yankee one through.

The weather is fine, provided you have a suitably hairy chest.
