In the hours just before dawn, Paul Myers would taunt the speed cameras.
The 31-year-old would race through the Harbour Tunnel on his motorbike at speeds of up to 212kmh, his number plate obscured and e-toll unpaid, according to police evidence.
His driving came to the attention of police on February 12, when the RTA Camera Unit contacted them with footage from the tunnel. Myers was clocked four times at up to 212kmh, between 4.30am and 6am from January 23 to February 6.
With the registration label obscuring his number plate, police only had the number 29 to identify the bike.
According to the police brief, it was only when an off-duty police officer saw a motorcycle - registration plate WHM-29 - being driven erratically that police were able to narrow their search for the rider. Operation Knievel - named after motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel - was formed to catch the rider.
On February 16, police gathered at various locations in the Harbour Tunnel and on the Warringah Freeway just before dawn. At 5.01am they saw a motorcyclist approaching at 92kmh in a 80kmh zone.
With a police car blocking the road, an officer held up a sign signalling the rider to stop. The motorcyclist slowed to 20kmh before ducking below the sign and speeding away. A chase ensued along the Gore Hill Freeway, at speeds of up to 220kmh, before it was called it off.
Armed with the driver's full number plate, police were able to track him to his workplace at a security firm and make an arrest.
At yesterday's hearing at the Hornsby Local Court, Myers pleaded guilty to all charges, including obscuring his number plate, recklessly speeding in a manner dangerous and not obeying the direction of police to stop.
He will be sentenced in six weeks after pre-sentence and psychological reports are obtained. Magistrate Maxwell Taylor said before ordering the reports:"Clearly something needs to be investigated. This is extraordinary behaviour."
Myers would not comment yesterday.

im thinking it would be a good idead seeing i dont have leathers and boots and i ride like a crazy demon but have no skills | brennyP
Have a look at some of the books listed at Motorcycle Racing Books
Keith Code is God and he wrote these... - A Twist of the Wrist
- A Twist of the Wrist II
- The Soft Science of Road Racing Motorcycles
If you only want to buy one book then look at Lee Parks book...
Also there is Kevin Cameron's... - Sportbike Performance Handbook
You should be able to find these online at the links posted above. If not just try using a search engine particulary for the Keith Code and Lee Parks books. The major book stores will order in for you as well, eg Dymocks in Sydney.
Read before you ride.

Losers...
As for the rider - what a dick.

You saw the program but I thought I'd post the details so others can view. From Seven's Today Tonight program comes a little bit of video to play.
It appreared under the heading: CAUGHT SPEEDING: A motorcyclist was caught on film doing at least 212km/h.
Curiously Seven / Today Tonight show ran some items a few weeks and months ago about how unreliable speed cameras are and how to beat them in court. I'd like to see the technical specifications for those cameras. I've got a suspicion that they cannot record properly at high speeds. Hence the "... doing at least... " wording. Pity they didn't tell Paul that before he pleaded guilty.

Yeah well wish I could but all that fun is now on hold for a while.
Bike in trading post, no calls, no I told you so either guys. Dropping the price which sucks cause the bike is just mint.
Didn't get the promotion at work I was hoping for, now at uni full time. As Fred Gassit says my starfish is getting nuggeted ya cahn
Now I have to sell the bike for less than I want, and I ned to buy a computer and get an adsl line installed at home for uni (post from my olds)
So if anyone knows of a good computer deal, I need it all basically.
And what's the best type of adsl/cable deals are out there. Need medium type downloads cause uni gear is heavy.
Looking for like a pent 3, don't download games or music, you know ex govt or corporate trade up discard, that kinda thing. Money is an object and I don't have that much to spend, the left over from the blade is just about it.
Cheers from a fairly bumbed out Will |
