| Re: BMW 1200 GS I just sold me 96 R1100RT and am now on the hunt for a replacement. Looking at the R1200GS and R1200RT. Both VERY nice but both dam near $20K. OUCH! |

| Re: BMW 1200 GS The 12GS is a nice bike. I did about 1200 miles on one last year.
Since then, I bought an 1150GS, and the 1200 is smoother and lighter, but I like the 1150 better. Simpler electronics, no servo brakes (they did away with those on the new 1200s), and apparently a more durable final drive. If you're still in the market, check out advrider.com. |

| Re: BMW 1200 GS I have a 08 1200 GS ( It replaced Mk1 04 1200 GS)
I regularly ride with sportbike riders touring in the Spanish Pyranees and Picos mountains. Once you get used to the Paralever suspension which seperates brake force from steering dynamics it's a hoot in the twisties. You will keep up with sports bikes and they will not overtake untill a long straight appears; then you can outbrake them to the apex and the boxer twin punches with immeadiate power to leave the four cylinder bikes behind whilst they 'wind up'.
I have fitted relatively sticky tyres
The boxer twin is fun on open roads with loads of torque and will pull in top at very low revs
I have done 600 mile days in Spain and felt OK at journies end but with well exercised shoulder muscles!
Downsides. It's big.
I also enjoy my 08 Blade |
