Because it is competing in WSB, it is required to have a certain number of street legal examples available for sale worldwide. Your opportunity to purchase one is in your not too distant future......

Actually BMW is claiming their new S1000RR will retail within I think $1000 of the Jap liter bikes which is hard to believe.

Not a chance. They are only going to produce 1000 of them the first year. If a KTM RC8 cost 3000 Euros more then a more-capable Fireblade, Then a WSB spec road legal 190-200 HP machine is gonna cost. (ie-the Ducati "D"...can't spell that word, sorry)

Re: 2009 BMW S1000RR Revealed

It will be interesting to see how they do this weekend at Phillip Island. Corser and Xaus are both talented, so if BMW can put together a decent race bike, they might see some results their first year. Can't wait!!! Also, they have just completed an "unoffical" practise and the BMW's were both in the top 10. Not a single RSV4 in sight. WSBK: Philip Island test session two

You have to remember that it won't be a spec machine anymore than a Honda cbr1000rr is. Much expensive modification goes into the bike before it's raced. The 1098R would be the closest street bike to race spec and it is huge bucks.

Re: 2009 BMW S1000RR Revealed

I like the new RSV4 and RC8R. However, the best out of Europe for me is the S1000RR.
