Blade insurance Vancouver

Hi every one.

I'm thinking of moving to Vancouver, though I'll have to sell my blade here in the UK and get another one when I get there.

Anyone got any ball park estimates as to cost of insurance for a 2000 blade in Vancouver for a 28 year old ?

Cheers
Jerry

Ok now, I told Jerry we had a large Canadian membership and that someone should be able to give him some kind of answer.

Don't make me look bad now.

Re: Blade insurance Vancouver

Hey Jerry, I am not sure about Vancouver, but Toronto my Quote for a CBR1000rr what about $1,600 for a year, That was with State Farm, and I had to move my House and car over to them. They will not insure bikes unless they have all your business, but they are the best price.

Now BC is a bit different, they have Provincial Run Insurance, where Ontario is Private Companies. From what I understand it is cheaper in BC than Ontario but I am not 100% positive.

Good luck with the move, Vancouver is a great place.

Regards,
Purp

Re: Blade insurance Vancouver

BC insurance for bikes is NOT cheaper than Ontario. In fact, its ridiculous. I'm 21 and have a clean driving record, and my 2002 blade, is approximately $3100 a year. Yes, that's correct, $3100 A YEAR!!! We live in the most beautiful city in the world, but we pay out our backsides for it. You can also insure as a recreational vehicle which is cheaper but there are restrictions. I'm not sure if they have that option with private insurance. Hope that doesn't scare you too much!

Re: Blade insurance Vancouver

There is a compulsor insurance for liability to obtain a license plate here in B.C. Now you can go higher like all the other bells & whilstles.

I only carry the addition of Fire & Theift which is $300.00 deductable & is only around $27 or 30 dollars.

Still in round figures for 12 months my cost is $1134.00. Still due to winter weather in this interior of B.C., & not able to ride due to cold weather, snow & ice so we are also able to insure for 3 months or more. Basically I insure from March till September. I only have the total in my books for a Yamaha YZF600r & the 929 as being $1291.00. Thing is it will be higher this riding season as I have the above two along with a '03 954 I bought in August of '04.

Mind you some in Vancouver can ride most of the season with rain & some snow so they insure for the full 12 months. So your minimum of liability only would be around $1124.00.

Hope that can help though a bit mixed up I must admit. Still at 28 yrs of age you are in a good bracket & had you been below 25 yrs of age you would have had to pay more.

There is an additional catch in what value you put on your bike FOR if the other party is in the wrong then their part of the Insurance Corp of B.C., (ICBC) must fork out for what ever value you have put on your bike if it is totalled, bar the yr & milage on the bike. That can hike up your insurance & I note even with a lower price on my 929 & higher on my 954 there is a higher cost on my 929 so I will have to have that out with them.

Re: Blade insurance Vancouver

Importing into Canada is not so bad, get in contact with RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) and Canada Customs before you proceed though as there is a bit of paperwork you need, some of which you may not have and it will be easier to get while you are still in the UK.
