PORT DOVER! May 13: Anyone from Ontario interested?

Hey all!

I was thinking about organizing a group ride over to Port Dover which is coming up Friday, May 13 2005. It's a huge event which brought over a 100,000 bikers last year. I never actually been but a lot of my biker friends have gone and went on mentioning that it is something you cannot miss.

So what my plan you ask? Simple, I want to organize the biggest group possible that has ever arrived to Port Dover. I'm sure you've seen a group of 10 maybe even 20 guys, but wouldn't it be cool to arrive in Port Dover as a group in upwards of 50 bikers. I will be checking this email everyday and I hope that there will be a good number of you responding to this.

If all goes well the plan will be to meet early in the morning at a pre-determined location (preferably a Tim Horton's) and leave as a group straight to the Port Dover event.

Hey Nik0,

If I'm in town, then I will ride out to Port Dover regardless of the group size. You'll never keep a group of 50 together after the initial starting point let alone after you make it into Dover... It is amazing. They shut down the town and disallow automobile traffic, bikes are piled upon bikes upon bikes... there was literally a walkway to the gas pumps because the station was so filled with bikes. Once you parked, you HAD to remain until people went home at night because you couldn't get your bike out. Good luck getting 50 to stay together.

Friends of mine live there... they say that they've come out in the morning and found bikers camping in their backyard and all over the place.

Make sure you PM Maci4life and WyseOne... last time I went with Wyseone, we had a big group go... uh... 15? 20? and that was a good ride out there, lots of backroads. Neither of us know the way though as we were the sheep following a leader.

Agreed! I don't think putting a big group like that together would be an easy task but for crying out loud why not!!!!

Once a year we can all donate a day towards something like that. It would make it easier to put a regular group together after meeting a bunch of new faces.

Maybe incentives should be made up? Prizes or something......I could just not care this season but I want to get a group together consistently not just Port Dover.

Check with OSR... They might be planning on something for Dover.

I didn't find it special when I went many years ago... I cruise thru every other year to see if things have changed; and so far it's been a resounding "no".
I'll pass.

I'll be at Parry Sound tho.

Way too many cops...and even more idiots...have fun and enjoy yourself.

I am hoping to get to parry sound this year too, maybe we can all(local ones) work something out for that?

I thought I would get more interest than this??? I have a group of about 6 guys plus another crew that might hook up with us. Hope to get some more interest before event in two weeks...

you gotta realize that Fri. 13 @ Port Dover is primarily a Harley thing and the folks here are more into sportbikes. *shrug* Secondly, most of us prefer smaller rides that don't draw as much attention. I usually prefer 4 people for my group rides although 8 is doable if you split in 2. 50... That's asking for a police escort.

p.s. It looks like I will be in town that Friday (unless I drive out to BC) so I'm probably in. I have one request - someone that knows a good route out that way. If you don't have a good route, then there are WAY too many straight roads.

Well it was alright, I went on my own. I have never seen so many HD's in my life and had no Idea there were that many cuisers on the street.

Spent a few hours there bought the T-Shirt then came home and got caught in the rain to boot.

My plan had been to piss off from work because I thought I had nothing to do... I ended up working until 7pm straight! haha, I was supposed to be slacking. Anyway, it was too cold and nasty for me to go at that point.
