| My own Iron butt Well, I just got home this morning(@5am) from a LONG ride over the last couple of days...22kms shy of 2000KMS in about 36 hours
Me and my buddy (riding an 02 gsx-r 1000) rode from Barrie Ont around to walkerton then to the tobermory ferry, up to south bay mouth, to espanola and then all the way across the top to Ottawa in one day, the next day we toured around in ottawa and then into quebec for a bit. Around 5:30pm or so we decided that we should head out for a while and get some miles on so our drive would not be so long today... Not a wise idea as we could not get a room anywere and we ended up riding from ottawa all the way home via algonquin provincial park and hwy 60 at 2am(lots of moose )
We had a LOAD of fun on this little trip...it was a great time and we covered a LOT of ground, saw a lot of scenery and wild life. I am going to try and find a map of what we did for those who are not familiar with the loop but, it is pretty much the whole north eastern section of ontario
Just thought that I would share my little adventure with all, and say that I now am going to be looking for a harder compound sports tire(harder down the middle anyways )(on that note the pilot powers held up pretty well all things condsidered) |

| Re: My own Iron butt judging by the pics from grattan and the way some of the guys in quebec ride I don't know if I would be able keep up
I don't know when I will be over next, probabbly not very soon as we got screwed as far as hotels go...we could not find one anywere between Renfrew and home, yes I know that it was the long weekend and yes I know that we should have looked before 7:30 pm but I figured that we would be able to find something at least.
all in all it was a very good trip, even if it was done on the "torture rack".(it really wasn't that bad ) |

What did you have for luggage?? A good tank bag really helps take the weight off your wrists and helps with the back too.
So, no moose roast for supper?? (Thank God for that, EH?) |

| Re: My own Iron butt I used my oxford sport stuff and it worked great other than a minor scratch on the left side of the rear fairing . it was a life saver, I am sure that I could not have done that trip with only a back pack, I would be even more sore than I am now
I will be sure to take some pics of it before I take it all off(the luggage that is )
We only saw about 3 or 4 moose and for the time(2am) that we went through there we figured that was pretty good. A couple of foxes, racoons and a few deer later we were through it and wishing that we were better rested and it was daylight so we could do that nice road again
Quite a nice loop with lots of very nice roads and lots of scenery mind you I don't think that I would do it all in 2 days again, I am a little tired out. |

Have you ever taken the Superior Circle tour? It's more tour than sport, but well worth it imho....

That was actually one of the ones that we looked at doing and then we thought that if we did we would need new tires at the end of it all. As it stands now I am going to be due shortly but, at least I got more life out of this one than the last tire, and more grip too
I am hoping to pick up a used VFR or something of that nature in the next year or two as I have realized that I am not getting enough touring miles on the RR and I miss riding 25,000KM plus a year.
I have been thinking on getting a harder compound rear for it but...I don't want to be rolling around with a 150 hp and have a hockey puck on the back for obvious reasons. There are just too many long flat straight roads around here |

| Re: My own Iron butt Hey Rob, you were about 2kms away from my place heading towards Ottawa(just East of North Bay). I left for Ottawa Sunday afternoon and got back Tuesday around noon in the rain, with about 1400 for the weekend. 2000kms in 1.5 days is really good. Most so far on the CBR is 800, with a couple friends, from up here through Hunstville, #3, #507, across the highway to Rosseau, PArry Sound, then 124 to home. I've done 1500kms in 12hrs on my VFR, from Winnipeg to Calgary. Not much sight-seeing on that ride.
I was hoping my seat would break in by now(7400kms), but the only way to do some non-stop riding is to sit in a crouch position with elbows on my knees/thighs and rest on the tank bag. Otherwise, it's like my butt is on fire.

| Re: My own Iron butt there are some very nice roads up there thats for sure...sounds like you have got lots of riding in, more than me this year...which really sucks, I normally have 2x this much on by now
glad to hear that the new 1000RR is working well, and as for the seat "breaking in" your pretty much there
Maybe my math is a little off but 1500/12 = more than the speed limit just kidding, if I had a viffer like that one I would likely have done it too |
