Witnesses say it was struck by lightning as it was rolling down the runway during landing.

Re: Air France A340 crash in Toronto

This is the first I have heard of it, but I can just imagine what it has done to normally crappy traffic in that area to begin with...how would you like to see a BIG plane(on fire none the less) comeing towards you while driving your car

Hope every one is OK.

Ironic that it's the opposite lanes that are deadlocked from the rubberneckers.

I would really like to read the report and see why they were shooting the approach in the first place, but am very glad to see that all survived.

Witnesses say that survivors in their panic ran TOWARDS HWY 401 (our major highway here).

Surviving a plane crash only to be run over by some dude in a Hyundai would kinda suck.

After all that, I wouldn't want to deal with customs either...

Re: Air France A340 crash in Toronto

I called my girlfriend since she works 3 blocks from that runway and she said that the news was not dramatic at all. She told me that a plane slide off the end and that was all. Reading the news post online though made it seem much worst.

I'd say that a passenger jet burning in the ditch is pretty dramatic.

Not entirely however there was a subway scare last week in Toronto also that never made it to headlines. It turned out to not be anything real dramatic however lesser incidences are breaking news.

Re: Air France A340 crash in Toronto

If the plane had over shot the runway any further then it did it might have ended up on N America's busiest highways. Would not have been a pretty sight.
