| Motorcycle licence plate fee in Quebec My friend just e-mailed me something that he saw in the newspaper about the motorcycle license plate fee in Quebec. They've been talking for a while that they wanted to raise the cost of them because of the increasing number of accident involving motorcycle, especially sports bike. Right now the cost for one year is 253$ add all the bullshit like administration fee and bla bla bla and you're up to 360$, witch is not that bad. You then have to insure the bike, for me add another 1000$ FULL coverage.
Now those bastard just released the "proposed" increase.
Year 2006 should stay 253+ the crap 360$
Year 2007 Sports bike 701cc and up 957$ they don't mention the crap my guess is had another 100$ to that.
Year 2008 1332$ plus crap should get around 1500$
So, long story short, by 2008 I should pay 2500$ before I can even think of taking the bike out for a ride...... It's not a done deal yet, people will go crazy about that at home, the motorcycle dealers will fight as well for sure. If it should happen, I'm turning the Repsol into a track dedicated bike next year, no need to sell to get a cheaper bike, the market will be absolutely awful to sell that kind of bike anyway... Will probably sell the fairing and wheels.
Just needed to vent...

They don't want to outlaw them, so they'll make it so expensive people can't afford to own them. Bunch'a passive aggressive pussies. |

| Re: Motorcycle licence plate fee in Quebec I was shoping for a full system.... just got the info about the plate, don't know what to do anymore.... If I track the bike it could be worth it, if I don't no need to put any money on a bike that nobody will want. |

| Re: Motorcycle licence plate fee in Quebec Might just have to do something like this, plate it in Ontario or anywhere that I have a friend that would let me use his address. Or track only, I don't even feel like riding on the roads after a good track day, just need to find me more track day to go to |

You need to move to Alberta.

I don't really care about the marine industry, it's ok, bunch of great experience and you get to see some beautiful places but there is some pretty serious down side... |

| SAAQ hikes registration/license fees Sportbike gov't insurance fees (such as for my bike) is going up by 525% to over $1,300 plus another $100 for the registration/bus tax/road tax/etc. License fees are also going up to $127. Making the grand total over $1,500 before even getting collision or theft insurance. All this for the pleasure of riding for 6 months.
A seperate motorcycle license will also be required and even if you do not own a motorcycle, you will have to pay every year in order to keep it active.
Automobile registration/licenses are also going up by approx 100%.
The SAAQ (Quebec's version of the DMV) is proposing these changes to be implimented gradually in 2007 and fully in 2008. They are holding public consultations for interested parties to discuss the issue.
More info can be found at the following site: http://www.saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/about_us/public_consultation.html Help stop the insanity, please go to the following site and sign the petition! www.touscontrelasaaq.com Thanks in advance. (Note: All prices are in CDN dollars) |

| Re: SAAQ hikes registration/license fees Sorry for the repost.
What bugs me is that they don't even do their jobs properly. They just sit in their unionized chairs and plant roots.
There are many 'hot spots' that cause accidents...ie. roads that are not designed properly. Why don't they make recommendations to the city to have these things better designed?
When someone has an at-fault accident. Have him take a refresher or safety course.
See to it that signalization maintenance is performed more than once per year.
Ensure that the salt trucks get out there cleaning & salting quickly by imposing strict rules and standards. The snow comes down and the trucks are often many hours before they're even out the door.
These are only some of the things they can do to help reduce accidents, other than raise rates. But they'd rather sit on their butts and just boost their incoming cash.
Year after year, they turn a nice profit, yet they 'need' to raise rates. I think a 525% increase is just plain stupid. How about doing what other companies do when they downsize...lay off some staff. But the unions wouldn't stand for that, right? So up the rates go.
Bunch of Aholes. |

| Re: SAAQ hikes registration/license fees A bunch of people probably don't know this, but a large part of the reason Arnold Schwarzenegger was able to win the recall election was promising to do away with the 300% vehicle registration "tax" increase that was looming.
Gray Davis, the previous governor let himself get blamed for it, but it was due to a law, Republican Governor Pete Wilson had signed.
Fight the man! |
