| Need help - Insurance - Don't want to sell my baby! Greetings all - This is my first post - and ... against all etiquette, I'm going to ask for help ... sorry upfront. Here's the deal - I'm a serving Canadian Forces member - we have been in Florida for six years (to include 9/11, Winter Olympics, Katrina / Rita) so NO even I don't have a tan lol. We are coming back to the Ottawa area in Jun/Jul (ish). My wife and I own an 06 Busa and a brand new 650R Ninja (wife) ... We are trying to find insurance ... and, so far no one will even touch us - especially the Busa!!! ... We have quotes of 2 grand plus (TOTALLY clean record e.g. save it for the track) So - who insures you guys/gals? Sorry for the long initial post but we love our bikes - and especially the Busa ... Thanks upfront ... I looked over your site and its exceptional - but - we are panicking here frankly ... we don't want to / can't afford to sell our bikes!! Who is insures sport bikes at a reasonable rate?? .... I will check back but ... home email is kelshekovach@knology.net ... THANKS!!! |

| Re: Need help - Insurance - Don't want to sell my baby! There is a fairly current thread on this topic if you do a search. It comes off a lot cheaper if you go with a company that does everything all in one package, home, cars, bikes, life, etc. I say that but that isn't how I do it but anyway that is how people have got the best deals. I just go with liability and comprehensive and figure that with the $1200 a year that I save by not having collision that I can buy a new bike every four or five years. |

| Re: Need help - Insurance - Don't want to sell my baby! Geico knocks 3 months of the year off the tab since they know up here in IN I can't ride all year long. I just have liability with Geico and it doesn't help that I have my truck through them also (no double vehicle discount due to them not considering a bike a vehicle). |

| Re: Need help - Insurance - Don't want to sell my baby! Hey, I know in Alberta it's illegal for an insurance company to deny you coverage, but that doesn't mean they can't make your premium unreasonably high. My policy is with the cooperators, and I'm happy with their service. I believe their head office is in Guelph so I'm sure you could find an agent in Ottawa.
If you want to lower your premiums you could take a recreational motorcycle course. They can be expensive, like $300 ish, but if it lowers your premiums you'll get your money back pretty quick. I took one, and with only one year of riding, no accidents or tickets, I pay $850 CAD a year for full coverage including at cost theft replacement. But I also have friends with the same record that pay $1400+ CAD because their bike is financed.
The Canadian Military Kicks Ass.
Good Luck! |
