CBR no likey long distance.

Ugh! Did my first butt burner on the CBR today and damn do my wrists hurt! I did ~400 miles riding with a group around Colmesneil and the lake Livingston area. Lots of fun on the curvy roads, but now I am missing the VFR... I could pound out a 500mile day on it and not be near as sore as this.

I'm thinking a tankbag to rest on may be my next buy.

Re: CBR no likey long distance.

I did 600+ mile days on my 929 without much trouble. Try putting less weight on your wrists by using your lower/mid body to support your weight. It helps a lot.

I've noticed that if I don't make the wrist straps on my gloves tight, and keep my wrists straight the numbness isn't nearly as bad

Hamburgler, I've done some serious miles on my TLR and owe it to my Joe Rocket tank bag that is kind of a cushion for my chest. It's magnetic mount and you can change the position a bit every time you gas up (which is a hell of alot on the Tiller!). If you need any more info, please let me know.

Re: CBR no likey long distance.

The solution is to obviously ride faster, thus air against your chest pushes you back lifting your wrists = less pain

A gel insert in the seat and heli bars made my CBR liveable - but I kept the VFR...

Yeah, I meet up with Scott and mostly Houston riders every week. It's a little out of the way but I haven't found anyone in my town that I enjoy riding with.

Re: CBR no likey long distance.

Scott's a good guy when it comes to finding twisty roads, that's for sure. Another guy I know was in your group, Terry on the GXR1000. There's another guy in the pics that I met at the 2004 Ride for Kids, the one with the goatee and tattoos, but I can't remember his name. Seemed like a nice guy.

Re: CBR no likey long distance.

On my 954, I did 1050 miles in 19 hours, followed by another 1250 or so miles over the next two days, followed by a return 1050 miles in 18 or so hours. No problems

Re: CBR no likey long distance.

So I took some advice here and adjusted my position. I tried not to slouch as much and hold myself up with my back more. Did ~300 miles on Saturday and was much better.

However, when I first got the CBR(april) the left bar end came out and I replaced them with some cheapos I found on ebay. They were lighter than the stock ones and I didn't think much of it at the time, but yesterday I ordered some long and heavy ones that were recommended in a different thread here. I also am going to look into some new gloves. The ones I have now have ~35k miles on them and weren't that good of a quality to begin with.

The CBR may yet turn into a decent touring bike

This based on a 1000RR but I did 750 miles the other day. I would agree with everything said so far and add:
1 Alternate your position some tucked on the tank mixed with some more upright, this changes wrist angle and muscle usage.
2 Get gel inserts for your boots (I was getting sore arches)
3 Avoid a locked elbow position
4 You do get used to it with time

On a different note I have some gel Tourmaster Gloves and they do help a small bit with vibration. Although they are not the sport armored type.
