It has been jerked about 5 times in the past 15 years only to have the governor step in at the last moment and "over-ride" it. Interestingly, at least 2 local state representatives are members of psuedo outlaw clubs.
The local MC club Iron Mustangs owned some serious property about 10 miles from my house and hosted MotoCross for several years at "Mustang Acres". A few years back, they sold it to a development company that put in several large vendors (Home Depot, Borders, Holiday Inn Express etc.) and at least 4 medical office complexes. I heard they pulled in over 300 million for the property.
Not too shabby for a bunch of bikers . . .

| Re: Michigan Helmet Law Actually earlier last week the law was passed that you dont have to have your helmet on. I suppose last year alot of crimes were happening where people would robb stores with their helmets on and ride off. That is what sources say..... |

"They protect you. They protect your head,“ said George, who voted against the bill. "Passing this law will increase the number of deaths, injuries and the cost.“
But Republican Sen. Bruce Paterson of Canton, who voted for the legislation, said the issue is about freedom.
"People have died so that we can be free — to allow people to be free in a free land unencumbered by big government's intrusion,“ he said.
Cropsey's bill now goes to the House, where Rep. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, has introduced his own version of the bill. That bill has been referred to the House Transportation Committee for debate.
|
"People have died so we can embrace our stupidity and selfishness, unencumbered by logic and discipline."
Well, more will die now.
I can't believe it. Of all the things that the MIchigan house could do to actually benefit riders - increase rights under the crappy no fault laws, ban dangerous road resufacing practices, prosecute people that run into us with their cars and trucks, or institute the death penalty for bike thieves, THIS is what they come up with.
This just gives the damned insurance companies another license to rape us.
Here's a better quote from an elected official in Michigan: Quote: |
People that ride without helmets are ****ing posers.

| Michigan No-Helmet Law Status The bill passed the State Senate, (unbelievably...) and the house referred it to the transportation committee. You can contact them directly if you want to have some input.
Here's a link that will enable you to follow the bouncing cranium... http://www.legislature.mi.gov/mileg....hlight=helmets
I'm thinking of writing to suggest an amendment that would allow no-helmet use for Harleys and other "beginner's bikes" under 40 RWHP. |
