| Good roads in Illinois? I might have an opportunity to move out near Scott AFB. No one else but you guys would understand, but having access to good riding is playing more than a small part in the decision.
I've never been in the area. What is the riding like?
Right now I'm spoiled with decent back-roads in Dover, occasional trips to ride in Bucks County Pa during the summer, and usually a couple of days in Vermont in the fall. How does Illinois and the surrounding area compare? |

| Re: Good roads in Illinois? I live on the St. Louis side of the river, but most roads on the Illinois side are straight. May find some twisties but I don't know of them. Bikers (mostly Harleys) hang out at Fast Eddies Bon Air Bar and Grill on the weekends and cruise the Great River Road. Ted's Harley Davidson/Honda is a pretty good dealer in Alton. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

| Re: Good roads in Illinois? I'm in Rockford which is about an hour west of Chicago. If you like it stright and flat then Illinois is the place for you. We end up going up the WI a few weekends a year to find something to re-round the tires again. |

| Re: Good roads in Illinois? Actually, if you are near Scott, then you aren't too far from really good stuff in Missouri....

| Re: Good roads in Illinois? the Peru area has some nice roads, by the starved rock area. in the central area, i wouldn't invest in hi performance tires, i would get one's that don't wear much down the middle, cause, well, that's what's gonna go. you'll have chickenstrips on your tires and everything.
I like city riding though, dodging cars, etc. i'unno. i think i may be the only one sometimes.
hit lake shore drive sometime. that's like a warzone when rush hour hits, but if you can get there and just enjoy the scenery (not too much, a bad crash will put you in the lake), it's quite impressive. |

How does Illinois and the surrounding area compare? | You want good riding, 4 tracks with within 3 hrs, one in 20 min, mountain roads (more then you will ever need or want), straights and even a dragstrip? Step up and come to Edwards AFB. Oh, dirt biking and mountain biking in your backyard too.
Good roads in Dover.... I use to cruise those roads back in the day.
AF going to move ya, ya might as well move. |
