Oh, and at certain times during the winter the air will be worse than anything you've seen before. Temperature inversions in mountain valleys aren't good.

The Salt Lake valley and Utah valley (where Provo, Orem, SF, etc. are) are more expensive then Tooele as they are the population centers, but you can still find mid to upper 100s housing all over. | dang leftists. I would give anything for the average low temperature to be an 22 F in Jan and Dec. I am used to around 5 F in Jan and Dec. |

I think in the winter the avg low was right around the same and I think the avg high was 20 or so. Now, living here (in the same damn town as Fred ) I think the same way, with the high of 60 being cold. We tend to get spoiled with warm weather out here. |

Couldn't tell you for sure. |

Originally Posted by RRWANTR So is Lehi like a burb with burbs surrounding it then? | Land area wise it is very sprawled out - covers a lot of area. In fact, two new cities have split off Lehi (on the south end at the shore of the lake and on the west side) due to population growth and being quite far from the still-small city center. The fire dept. was all volutneer until recently as well and the PD doubled in size.
But it is still fairly small in population and still has a "small town" feel to it.
I guess in a way it is a "burb with surrounding burbs" in that the center of the city is 5-10 miles from that community that has gone up around Cabelas, but it is still part of the same city. The development I am in is also "dislocated" from the rest, I guess, but our new house and the property is closer to the rest of the city.
If you head east on that road where Cabelas is there are even more communities that are part of the city, but quite disjoined like that new community you saw. |

I don't care what you find on weather.com or wherever you got that from, but in the winter time, it is freakin colder than 18 degrees. The weather predictions are never right. You ever heard of the lakeshore effect?? |

Ever hear of the term AVERAGE (if not, it means there are higher temps than 18 and lower temps than 18 but on AVERAGE the low temp is 18)?
I'm sure I've heard of the lakeshore effect, as I lived on the shore of Lake Superior..ever hear of it?
And actually, during the winter, the temp is usually warmer along the shore than inland a bit due to the lakeshore effect (the effect does provide for more snow though). Windchill (doesn't change the actual Temp reading) will be greater right on the shore due to the unubstructed wind. During the summer it's usually cooler by the shore due to the cool water. |

Bad part - the state's largest prison complex is in the town right next door.
That home is on the east side of the freeway and north of the prison, prison is on the west side.
Still a nice area and it's not like the prison has a history of breakouts.
Not too bad a price for the size I guess.
It's about 10-12 miles north of me. |

Chains required in the winter much? | I've never put chains on any vehicle here.
The New Year's Eve before last we went up to our condo in Park City in my wife's Eclipse. It just so happens that night we got a blizzard. Driving home was a bit slow and my wife was turning into a ball of nerves, but it there were really no hairy moments. The biggest problem came trying to get the damned thing out of the parking spot as a plow had just gone down the street.
That drive between PC and SLC isn't really too hairy a canyon, but some of the ski area canyons will require 4x4 or chains. Those ski days you just drive a 4x4.
Really, the snow removers work very efficiently here. |

| Re: Tell me about Utah Utah is a great place! I have lived all over the country, in Boston, Dallas, Pensacola, Las Angeles and Phoenix, every one of them has there own peculiarity and down side. None of them can compare with the beauty of this state. If your a drunken ass rammer you probably won't like it here, however if you can get along with people and let others follow their own path they will let you follow yor own way to peace and happiness. People looking for problems will always find them and will never be happy anywhere. So if Utah looks good to you, it probably will be. And if you want to bitch about liquor laws you'd better start with the Dallas area! |
