| Re: Tell me about Utah Non mormon in Utah? Of course. The Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints does influence some of life in Utah. In what ways? You cant buy hard booze in grocery stores like others states. You have to go to the state owned liqour store. We dont have bars. We have private clubs ( basically a bar that you have to pay a cheap membership to be allowed to buy a martini etc) Things close earlier or are not opened on Sunday. These are very minor things IMO. We have some of the best riding in the country and an awesome world class track. Tons of coffee house and lots of unique places to eat. Toole is one of the few places where housing is not too out of contol in the valley as well. Hope some of this helps. |

| Re: Tell me about Utah Come on now, Speed. I already answered many of these questions over Labor Day.
The whole alcohol thing is mostly a myth as you found out, and not anywhere near as controlled as much of the south.
Anyway, the majority in the state for one religion used to be far larger than it is now. There are plenty of non-LDS that live happily here and get along with no issues.
But you know that. You're just looking for words.
So here you go:
Stay out, you kalifornistani loser!!

No, not looking for just hot air at all & I don't remember having a talk with you about living in Utah. I was real excited about riding the track & having too good of a time goofing off to remember much.
The one thing that struck me almost as much as the track was how clean it was there. LTL can pretty much tell you how crappy the area is where I live now so it was really refreshing to be in such a nice clean place.
I wasn't planning on moving for at least a couple more years but I'm not sure I can handle this toilet much longer. We have been visiting relatives in Oregon during our vacations for quite a long time & pretty much had our hearts set on moving there after my son (from previous wife) turned 18 but I'm starting to think it would be a good idea to search around a bit more.
Any input, links, housing info, jobs etc would be apreciated. | |

| Re: Tell me about Utah Hmm........................maybe it was someone else, but I though it was you asking about why you can't buy beer on Sundays and stuff. Didn't think you could buy alcyhol at the restaurant on Sunday either.
Maybe I'm just crazy. Alright, fine I am. But anyway, you can buy it on Sunday and you can get it in a restaurant on Sundays, but your end of the table knows that.
Aren't you in trucking? There is plenty of that in these parts, but you'd know more about that than me anyway. My brother in law drives truck, but is pretty much in the area all the time. Hits the surrounding states, but I'm pretty sure he's back home every day.
Housing will be cheap compared to where you are currently, and out in the Tooele area land is less expensive than closer to the SLC or Provo areas.
There are plenty of other industries and yes, white stuff falls from the sky.
Supposed to snow in the mountains this weekend. |

| Re: Tell me about Utah I spent just under 4 years going to school at BYU several years ago. I was one of about 6 non LDS attending at the time. I found the area was beautiful, the people friendly and really enjoyed my time there.
I found the general Provo/SLC area was pretty much divided between Mormans and Cowboys. A 5 minute drive from the university campus put you in another county and was like stepping into the wild wild west. Great bars and rowdy people . . .
Interestingly, several states have government run liquor stores (Kansas is one if I recall) and try to buy a cocktail in Tennesse or Kentucky on Sunday in half the counties . Utah certainly isn't unique in that respect and several laws regarding alcohol sales vary by county if it's still the same.

There is your completely innaccurate outsider's view of the state.
One where the spewer has no actual knowledge at all.
The state is run no differently than any other. No one religion runs the state in any way, shape or form.
Yes, it is a very red state. Very much Republican and very much Conservative.
And proud to be.
The voting for Bush had more to do with rejecting the idiocy of the left than "loving Bush".
And there are many views and metalities in the area, unlike the ass party, which is full of single-viewed narrow minded idiots.
Again, boofy's statement is so out in left field it is fitting for him. |

Supposed to snow in the mountains this weekend. | Thanks! I saw a billboard listing new 3bd 2ba homes in Tooele area for $109k, can't get a trailer for that here anymore. I would like to continue my pension with the Teamsters if possible. I found that ABF Freight is hiring in SLC, local & home everyday would be nice however vs 3 nights out. I'm not really opposed to learning a new trade if it would pay the bills & let me ride ........ maybe MMP could use a new guy in the promotion dept? Quote:

| Re: Tell me about Utah No, snow in the valley isn't that big an issue. Well, at least most of the locals don't think it is. The snow removal people do a pretty good job. You'll have maybe a handfull of messy drive days each year.
Yes, it can get cold here. Yes, it can get hot here. Yes, it snows. Yes, you'll go for weeks in the summer without rain. |

2nd, a good friend of mine lived there for 2 years, and just couldn't take it anymore. So my comments come from his opinion, many things I've read, and people who have spent time there.
To know how it is politically there one only has to look at your posts on this board. |

Truth is the state is hardcore Mormon and someone moving there needs to be prepared for that kind of lifestyle if they aren't LDS. |
