| Took the 929 to the drag strip sunday. One of the local subaru dealers had rented out the dragway for all the subaru owners to run. I took the 929 down with a pair of leather pants in a backpack incase I was able to con my way past tech. I'm friends with a few of the guys who setup the event so after getting them in touch with the tech guys, the bike was through and I was off to go show up some WRX's and STi's. Start of the day some of the STi owners thought they had a chance against me, but that confusion was quickly cleared up after a run or two. I was the only bike there and the amount of cars running wasn't too many so I could just keep looping around the track with out ever stopping. Got 25 runs in, 10 more by my brother, all for $10.
Best run of the day was 11.121@127.85, brother turned a 11.136@131mph....he's lighter than I am. Time for a diet I guess. Bike is faster than that of course, I'm just not that good. 2 cars ended up being towed home, 1 tranny (friends car) and 1 turbo failure. Very fun day, last time I had been on the 1/4 was back in 2001 with a mostly stock bike. Turned a best of 11.34.

| Re: Took the 929 to the drag strip sunday. New England Dragway out in lovely Epping NH. Was a nice day out, mid to high 70's with a slight wind. Few clouds, but not enough to stop me from getting a stupid looking sunburn ring around my eyes from the helmet. Exeter Subaru was the dealer who rented the track, they do this every year for the local subaru owners. If you are a NE resident and want a Subaru you need to talk to them.

| Re: Took the 929 to the drag strip sunday. Great pics and vids Ed. Man that brings back some memories. Used to go to New England Dragway every Friday night on the bike with a bunch of friends from Sandown(they are now known as the NH Rough Riders). My best time was 11.51 on my stock 1998 F3. Now that I have my 954 I'm curious what it'll do. Trying to get some friends here in AZ to go with me and join the fun. I'm hoping to pull a somewhere in the 10's.

I was friends with about 50% of the people there, including some of the guys running it. So we were all just having a good time. Lots of smack talking in the lanes, rude hand signals at the lights. Offered to sell my slow time slips. One of the STi's did 12 flat, and then blew the turbo.
The WRX and STi are both awsome cars, great online comunity for the owners. Some of the dealers as you can see really take pride in making their customers happy, even if you didn't buy your car there. I was planning on getting an 02 WRX, but opted for something slower knowing my insurance would be awful.

| Re: Took the 929 to the drag strip sunday. Good post. My two favourites lined up... 'blades and 'roos. They aren't really the right beasts to compare though (as you've pointed out). The 1/4 is not the place for a scooby to be hanging... they really excel (or accel) in the low traction arena - being able to use that 300hp on loose stuff is impressive. 300hp on the high grip stuff just well... isn't impressive if you are driving four wheels compared to two (AWD vs RWD) let alone compared to 1wd & 135HP. |

| Re: Took the 929 to the drag strip sunday. Not too bad for mostly stock. My best stock was 10.68@131. With full system, PC3 and custom map, 4-1/2 inch extended s/a, air shifter, shift light and front strapped, 10.08@134....but the shifter bolt came loose and I had a new drag/street tire on, (Shinko...the best tire for the track), and that thing REALLY grabs! I was leaving at 8K rpm and it still wanted to bog down. It should be in the 9.90's, but my 60' times were .1-.19 off of what I normally run every saturday at the 1/8th. The first time I went two years ago, I got hooked, and this year I'm racing every weekend at an 1/8 mile track. I've taken 2nd twice...still looking for that big trophy. |

But when you move one of the MPEG's in it only plays as a sound file. I'll upload one of the single run MPEG's, see if you guys have any better luck with it. http://junk.cbr929rr.com/EHelbling3.mpg

| Re: Took the 929 to the drag strip sunday. I didn't have a tether on my kill switch, though I'm going to be looking into that this year if my drag times keep getting better like they were. This track had the rule that if you did 10.999 or faster you needed a tether to run, but above that you were fine without. The rules change from track to track though so your local one may want a tether on reguardless. They used to even let you run in jeans and boots if you didn't get down to 10 seconds, but now you need leg protection no matter what. As mindless as the straight line stuff is, it's alot of fun. And we see alot of the race teams with the track bikes over there fine tuneing their launches for the real races. So if you like track days or actually race, the drags could help you get that first jump down better.

| Re: Took the 929 to the drag strip sunday. Yeah, never done a track day before. I want to really bad, but too many fears of horking up my 929. I think I'm an OK rider, but far from a good one. I'd be more comfortable starting on a smaller bike, SV, EX500 or maybe an older 600. The 929 is just too much bike for me to consider on the track, at least for now. One nice thing about the drags I find is that afterwards I tend to be slower on the street. With the state my license is always in, thats a good thing.
