Just got back from the drag strip, new times.

Had a blast, got it down a little quicker but I am still fighting the suspension and wheelies pretty hard. I am not sure where to go next but hopefully one of the SB's can chime in and help me. Today I was able to run 6.87 at 114 in the 1/8 and back it up a couple of times with 6.88 and 6.89 and with a lot of 6.90's as well. Current setup is in the sig with the front dropped 1.5 inches through the triple clamp and the back lowered 4. Front is strapped as well. She has plenty of power but when I launch at 5k, it bogs but any higher and I am fighting wheelies for the entire 1st gear. Fighting the wheelies has produced the best times and the best 60's (1.85's) but I can't seem to get them any lower because I am afraid she is going over on me. All of the 6.8xx passes were 7500 rpm launches going WOT as soon as the bike moves. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Here is how she sits right now.

Re: Just got back from the drag strip, new times.

Practice practice practice. I normally leave around 5500 but yesterday I had to leave at 5K to keep the front down a little more. I was riding 1st gear all the way out up in the air, kept having people come over telling me I was riding the hell out that bike. But I've been doing it religously for two years, so I'm used to it. My 60's last year were low 1.50's, had one 1.49, but I was fighting to get into the 1.50's the past two weekends. Did have a couple 1.58's, the rest were 1.61-1.64, but I think I was spinning a little, another reason I went down to 5K, plus I had to adjust my suspension all the way soft, back 1/2 a turn hard so it would squat and put the weight on the rear tire. Wheelies, with a stock swingarm, you will always fight it! You just have to feather the clutch longer. I was running 6.25-6.31 all day yesterday, on motor...only sprayed once, but that was in eliminations, then I let off and ran the 6.31 at 114. My normal mph is 114-115 on motor, and 118-119 on spray. Seems like you are pretty low, so thats good. Are you using an airshifter or foot shifting? If you can, go with an autoshift from MPS!!! It will take 1 tenth off if you are already using an airshifter. if not, it will probably take 3 tenths off. Extend the swing arm and you should be running 6.teens-6.20's.

Re: Just got back from the drag strip, new times.

At the moment still foot shifting. I want an airshifter next but I was waiting to see if I actually liked drag racing. I was pretty happy because today was only my 3rd time at the strip on a bike. I have been racing cars for about 11 years so it did give me a bit of an advantage tranferring over to bikes but at the same time, it's still a whole new ball game lol. Tottaly different aside from the RT's and knowing when to go lol.

I will definately keep practicing though as I love it. I think I am going to wait a bit longer on the extension, I will try to get into the 6.50's stock length, then I will feel like I am doing ok. Thanks for the input man, I will hit it again next sunday and work on the suspension some more.

Re: Just got back from the drag strip, new times.

You can stiffen up the rear shock to help with the wheelies also. The only way to go fast is to keep practicing, everyweekend you should be faster.

My track open the day before Easter than I`ll post some new faster times hopefully

New upgrades this year are...

Works performance rear shock set up for Drag only
C02 airshifter
NOS progressive box
MRE lock up clutch
Raptor shift light
MPS auto shift( Failsafe incase I do miss a shift)

Keep up the good work racing 954`s maybe some of the companies will start making some parts for us too.
This protype stuff sucks

Yeah, I guess stiffening the suspension will help on a stock wheelbase. I have to go all the way soft to keep from spinning.

He's slow! lol By the way SB, might be heading your way with the bikes when it warms up there!!!!!! We can rip the strip with the Hondas, and since it'll be the same track, same day....we can run them together and see if I can get into the 20's with ya..,...since I havent made a full run on spray.

Re: Just got back from the drag strip, new times.

Once I add the airshifter, I think I can see 40's on the stock length, I hope. I am heading up to a "freaky Friday" April 1st and they let us run the 1/4 there so I will get some decent times there hopefully. I need to see 6.50's or so in the 1/8 to get me a 9 second slip lol, but damn I am close. I have been dropping about 3 tenths each week at the strip just with practice so Hopefully in another week and another 10 runs or so, I can see that 6.50 I am dying for. It suck because I know the bike is capable of more but at least this way I can't blame the equipment, only the lack of skill and I am working on that.

Oh Ya I always forget you guys run 1/8th mile.

My 1/8 averages are 6.03-6.07 @ 123 mph

And that is with 1.58-1.62 60' times

my bike still carries the front wheel from a dead dig set at 64 inches long(9 over on the swingarm)

You're still slow! lol Maybe when I go back to Rockingham or the Outerbanks track when it warms I'll see if I can get that 6.0X on spray like you. Best on motor is 6.13...and been several 6.15-6.19 that nice day at Rockingham.
