Stretch

OK, I give up. The wheelies have to stop. I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible while running just to give everyone else a hard time, but if my ET's are going to get better I'm gonna have to go longer with the swingarm.

What would be better - 4 or 6 inches on the stretch?

I'm worried that going to long will cause the bike to lose traction. That's the last thing I want.

Not only that - what's the best way to guage chain length when I do stretch it out?

Re: Stretch

First time posting on this board. I have a 01 929 and am set up for drags. I used exoticycle bolt on extensions. They are more money than other brands and i dont know why, but they are 2-6 inch and work great. This is my 3rd season running with them. As far as other mods: Dale Walker PS3 electric shift, 3 inch rear lowering link, Erion exhuast,PC 3, Stock air filter. I went down one on the counter shaft and up 2 on the rear. The bike is set at 59 inches and also has a front lowering strap. We ran are first race yesterday and its numbers were 60 FT. 1.53 330 FT. 4.08 1/8th mile. 6.19@114MPH 1000FT. 8.09 1/4 mile 9.70 @ 139 MPH. Which is what it allways runs. As far as traction i run a 190 Shinko Stealth drag radial. I ride to and from the track and no where else on this bike. I leave the tire at 16 PSI at all times and do a small 4 sec. burnout. i run 92 chevron and weigh 177 with no gear. I am not sure where your at but where we race i am the only cbr at the track. Lots of busas and zx-12s that run 9.90s with a hell of alot more horsepower. I had one of our racers that has a bike dyno make a map for it and it pulled 134 HP.This is my 10th year drag racing CBRS so if you have any questions about set up or anything else let me know.

Re: Stretch

Yellow, it's good to have another CBR dragger out there. It sounds like you have an impressive thing going there.

I will definitely keep you in mind.

I'm not the only CBR at the track. We have test and tune on Thursdays and the Strip is packed with bikes every week. There are more Busas, but most of those guys can't ride. I've watched 600's take out a few of the Busas out here.

Re: Stretch

I have a used set of those bolt on extensions from ExoticCycle in black powder coat with aluminum writing of "ExoticCycle". Paid $450, will sell for $200 shipped. Used them for a year then got the weld on extension.

You like changing jets and nozzles over pushing out a different map between runs? Or is it the soft low end characteristic of the carbs? I have been down both roads more than a few times, and I much prefer the FI with loadable maps.

Re: Stretch

A carb can't loose it's map, the jets are always the same size.

If the weather is crappy or elevation changes things can be a pain, but I don't really race competitively, it's all for fun unless I'm challenged, then I get the ol barometer and computer out to see how the air fuel etc might be running. All the stuff that I race with has been outdated, but it still works for a bit of fun.

The jets get bigger over time. We had to buy new sets every year for the 250s due to them opening up. I agree with the fun part, but once I found out I could re-jet without pulling the tank and getting gas all over the place, I decided fun was relative . . .

I have never lost a map and think that people that have usually don't understand basic grounding technique.

Many times that is true.
I use Fuel Injection. If I were to run a car it would have to be FI.

To be honest, I just like the older CBRs. I will say that I should have an FI bike very soon. I don't plan to mod it or race it though. I just want another toy that's reliable and will get be from here to Alaska is I want to go - in comfort to some degree.

Re: Stretch

I still love to work on the 250s, as they were very easy to manage. About 2 minutes to remove the tank and all bodywork, about 5 minutes to completely rejet, maybe 5 minutes to change both front and rear ride height and less than one half hour to change out the gearbox cluster.

When I was running a V4, it was always pretty daunting to rejet, but usually required at least a couple of times per season here in Michigan.

I'm gonna make the tank and seat quick-release as soon as I get another bike to dedicate to street duty only.
