Update on drag times...not so disappointed

Back to 1/4 mile track at Rockingham. Saturdays 3 passes were very disappointing....best was a 6.34@112 1/8; 9.81@136 1/4.

Sundays bracket racing the bike finally loosened up from Saturdays passes I guess.

Only have 3 tickets of the 5 with me, but the other 2 are between these numbers.
1st) 6.215@116.86 1/8; 9.633@140.52 1/4
2nd) 6.200@115.80 1/8; 9.632@140.71 1/4
slowest pass OFF the throttle 6.227@116.52 1/8; 9.669@133.09 1/4

Hopefully it will loosen up a little more and get me into the low 9.50's on motor. I didn't spray since the motor is still fresh, but I will the next time I go to the 1/8th and 1/4!

Did you end up making any further changes to the motor?

No, I didn't have time to pull it out and do anything. I'll see how it does over the next few weeks since it dropped down to what I thought it should be on a fresh motor and see if it will turn some better numbers before I decide to pull it out again.

9.6 is pretty good bro. You should be pushing very, very close to 8 sec with NOS.

You're night at the strip was much better than mine. The best I could pull all night was a high, and I mean high 11 sec pass. The bike decided to run very rich with the warmer weather we've been having. Time to switch jets again.

I was off my game last week as well though. my reaction times were something like .449 and .063. Terrible. I'm glad I wasn't running seriously. Test and tune night turned out to be a good thing.

Wow Lonnie, that thing is looking sharp! Give me a call when you lay the numbers down so I know how it went. I know what you are shooting for, hope you get it!!! What data logger are you using? Looks like the AMS1000 is the big wig, but it might have more than most people really need.

My 60' times were sucking too, best I pulled was a 1.58 twice, the rest were 1.60 or 1.61. Just getting back on the bike though, hopefully I can get back to throwing that thing out and not being nervous about it....hell, I haven't brought the front up since I went back another inch, only have about 1/4-1/2" left of space to go back, figuring the chain will strectch a tad more and put me close to it.

Yes the boost controller is a AMS-1000 but the datalogging is the microtech LM-8

Good deal. I think a buddy here running a Velocity stage 2 turbo on his gsxr1K is using a microtech.

Re: Update on drag times...not so disappointed

I'll be running again tomorrow night. I'm hunting the low 10's. Then I'll be back where I need to be so I can grab for real improvement.

Last year the 900RR saw a 9.8XX without a stretched arm and no Nitrous. I was using a VP racing fuel, but I can't say that was what contributed to it all. This is with nothing more than a full Micron system, K&N in the box, and -1 tooth up front.

I've tightened the suspension up and will be strapping the front down in a few more runs. I have a swing-arm at the machine shop being extended 6in.

Hopefully this will help me see mid to low 9's

With a bit of I should be able to see a high 8 or a very, very low 9 sec pass in the quarter.

With a 40 shot, extended 6in and MR9 VP fuel you will probably get around 9.30's-9.40's on a 900rr with no motor work if you saw 9.8s before.

you guys rule. Custom low to mid 9s would be awesome from a basically stock 900, you gotta be doing something right at the controls.

I wanna go to a street night sometime this summer but I'm kind of scared to try to launch my bike. Hell I don't even wanna attempt a burnout because I barely touch the ground now and with the rear lifting under load my toes will be off the ground.

Re: Update on drag times...not so disappointed

There is no doubt a fear the first time - every time for that matter - that you hit the track. You just gotta get out there and try it. Don't push yourself or the bike that hard and see what you need to work on. You never know, you might be a natural.

As for me, I work my butt off to see good times. In order to see a 9.8 or even a 10.00 on a 900RR is to give it everything, pushing the limits all the way to the edge. The time found doesn't come from the bike, it comes from the reaction time plus the 60ft time. The front wheel has to literally float through at least the 60ft. Too high and you loose a 10th. Solid on the ground and you're not pushing enough.

On the initial launch you have to learn not just the bike, but you as well. You have to know your mental state and challenge it to the limits while you stay calm and cool. As the lights up top go yellow you have to run the RPM's to your desired limit and then grab a fistful of throttle while manipulating the clutch through the 60ft to keep everything in line. You want to shift dead on the redline from 1st gear on.

The first pass I ever made on the 900RR was about 13 sec. I didn't know what the bike would do, and I had no idea how to react to it on the track. I took it easy and went 97MPH after letting out of the throttle about 30ft to the Quarter mile line.

Start slow and comfortable and work your way up. Always look to do better. Once you reach your comfort level again keep pushing. You will find that a stock bike is capable of a great deal more than most people will ever see.

Rickey Gadson put a 600 into the 9's in the quarter. I believe that was a stock bike for the most part.

SOOOOOOOOOO close to the 5.90's. Even with the new Big shift cylinder and lines, pumping the tank to 200 psi, the S.O.B. wouldn't go into 4th gear....with full kill on spray!

Oh well, new best of 6.044 @ 119....after a 6.09 @ 121 the pass before it before changing the kill box to full kill. Maybe I'll get it right eventually.

So close is right... you'll get it...

I had a fun time yesterday at a local dragstrip.. couldn't even come close to my usual times but did manage to win the womens headsup (back tire was breaking loose bad in the initial take off so I had to keep off the gas more than usual )

CONGRATS!!!! It's hard to get back into the groove when you are away for a little while. Let some of that "hot air" out next time, lol.
