| Ran the 1/4 mile Friday(long) We decided to hit the track on Friday for a good time and bit of "competition" between us. So the smack talk started earlier in the day when we decided we were going to go. A friend of SPY's asked him who was going to win and of course he discounted my 600 right off the bat. Bastard! Didn't bother me any but boy did it get me ready.
We get to the track around 7:15pm and go through tech. They tell us that if we break 120mph we need full leathers. Wasn't sure what I was going to run. Everything checks out and we head towards the staging lanes. The smack talk continues. Jarrett is all hyped that he's gonna whoop my ass. He rides an 05 R1, SPY has his 954, and Scott is running an 01-02 Gixxer1k. So on paper they should all beat me. Didn't bother me as I just wanted to have some fun. I haven't been on the 1/4 mile in well over six years. Used to go all the time with my friends back east, we would go just about every Friday and usally every other Saturday. This was back in the day when I had my 98 F3. So I was excited to get back out there and have some fun. I was unsure of what my RR would run in the mph department so I was eager to see what the kid on the 04 R6 a few spots ahead of us would run. He ran a mid to low 12 at 115 or so. I figured I'd be in the ballpark so I didn't even think about the 120mph.
Round 1
We're ready to rock and the other guys all run before me. They run high 11's and so I'm sure I'll be in the 12's with the R6 kid. I stage next to a guy on an 04 Gixxer1k. This dude is all set up. Front is strapped, low PSI in his rear, full leathers, and he's looking pretty serious about it. I stage and wait...and wait...and wait for this guy. My lord I'm not sure if he thought this was for a trophy or something. He finally stages. Lights go green and we're off. As I approach the finish I glance to see my mph. It's showing 124 mph. I have a speedohealer so I was interested to see what the board said. I glance over to see him close but still behind me. AH HA, I won. I grab my slip and head back to the lanes to meet with the guys. I look at my slip and am curious if I broke the 120 mark. Eeeek, I run a 11.6@124. So now I'm wondering when they say somethig about not having full leathers . We compare times and what do ya know round 1 goes to the baby blade. Now I wanna race some cars just for fun.
Round 2
I stage up next to this orange thing, looked like a gremlin but was far from stock. Total race car. Great now I'm gonna lose to an old race car. Oh well. I look at his winsheild and see his bracket racing time. 13.3. Well I should be able to beat that and just get in my zone. We stage and things go green. No match for the bike of course. We had agreed that we would take a break after two runs so SPY could grab a bite to eat. I meet up with them near the food and look at my slip. 11.4@127. Round 2 goes to the 600. I decide to let them in on my "little secret" and tell them I used to run all the time back home. We return to the lanes and talk about technique and stuff. I give Jarrett and SPY some pointers. Scott on his Gixxer decides he's going all out this run to see what he can do. Jarrett seems a bit disappointed but I'm sure a huge part of it was knowing that he shouldn't break 120.
Round 3
Scott runs first and rips off an 11.313@142mph. He got a decent start and really went for it. So I thought for sure he'd have the best time of night between us four. I run second. I stage up next to a late model Camaro that looked fairly stock. I've seen plenty of cars that looked stock from the outside run silly fast so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. We stage, lights go green...see ya pal. Grab my slip and catch up to Scott. I ask if they said anything about him "slightly" going over 120 with no leathers. Nope, they said nothing . SPY and Jarrett run and we all compare times. I got a decent start but not super. I ran an 11.373@125. So round 3 goes to Scott on his Gixxer.
Round 4
Last run of the night. In the lanes I count cars and see that I'll be running a tricked out Lancer EvoVIII. I'm a bit excited to see what it will do. I know he's gonna launch really good so I need to be on my game. As our turn approaches the driver of the Evo is counting out cars to see who he's going to run against. He sees that he'll be taking on my 600. He laughed, that prick laughed when he saw me. Now I knew I had to hand him his ass. I run first. We stage and the green comes on. Good lord that car launched really well, damn AWD. Up to about the 60' mark he probably had a huge smile on his face. However at about 61' it was probably a frown cause I said C Ya! I grab my slip and head to the scale to see what she weighs. What a pig, 416lbs(SPY weighed his also and it was 414). I go out and wait by the gate for the others to arrive. We compare slips and my last run was my best of the night. 11.288@126. Round 4 goes to the little 600. So the new name for my bike is "The Giant Killer".
All in all we had a blast and I can't wait to go back. Forgot how much fun it is. |

The 600's usually get very good times because you have a broad band of RPM to play with on the start and through the 60'.
I've taken the 900RR streetbike to the track before and had 600's take me off the line, but they were reeled in by horsepower and torque.
I'm surprised that your track allowes you to run cars. That's not allowed in Jackson, SC for safety issues. If a car crosses the line it's over.
Not only that, cars simply cannot compete with bikes. The ones that can have more money in them than it's worth. |

The last time I ran, some guy was dialing in his Pro Modified whatever (mid 8s with slicks about 2 feet wide, parachute etc). When we launched I was pelted with rubber, asphalt, bleach and whatever else that thing was tossing. I decided to line up with bikes for the rest of the evening . . . |

| Re: Ran the 1/4 mile Friday(long) Awesome job!
I had my 4th points race Saturday. Happy, and unhappy.....Went out 1st round breaking out. Bogged off the line and bumped the NOS twice and it gave me a 6.24 on the brakes at the end on a 6.28 dial in. Damnit, 1st in points might slip away. Bought back in and ended up taking 1st, but the 2nd place guy in points passed me by 16 before he went out in the Semi's. I had the bye in the semi's and the drag bike red lighted on me in the finals.
The second good part was an 05 Gix 1K with Carpenter head or motorwork wanted to race one of my racers on his Gix 1K...well, after he saw him run a 5.98 the 05 kid didn't want any...so I extend the offer for the same $100 if he wants to run the Honda...LOL, he never had a chance, cut his head off on the light (.026 to his .278), 60' (1.56 to his 1.71), and ET 6.15 @ 118(missing 3rd gear shift the first time), to his 6.48@122. |

| Re: Ran the 1/4 mile Friday(long) sounds like fun. did they say anything about the leathers?
in Epping they keep a close eye on that. Last year I went up with a couple friends (I didn't run). First run my the 05 GSXR6 goes and he gets a mid 11 at 120.25 or something. that was it for him for the night. next the 99 ZRX1100 with a strapped front and min preload goes, he gets mid-high 11s. Does that for about 3 or 4 runs not being able to top 120 then finally breaks 121 towards the end of the night. |

Never really thought about it until we were in tech and they said if we go over 120 we need full leathers. Now that I know I break 120 every time I will be wearing them the next time. |

| Re: Ran the 1/4 mile Friday(long) The only requirement Street Bikes have on our Test and Tune nights are:
Leather or Textile Riding Jacket
Full Fingered Gloves
Full Length pants - Leather is optional
Boots that cover the ankles
Full Face Helmet
Carolina Dragway basically makes you cover everything except the butt and legs if you ride in off the street. |

| Re: Ran the 1/4 mile Friday(long) Yea I suck....
But its ok i was happy with my runs even though i was talkin mad ****!
I HONESTLY did not think Reap's bike would do so well and i did not think Reap had such EXTENSIVE drag time under his belt!!
But he showed us all what the baby blade could do and i was extremely impressed.
And with the whole leathers thing.... I would wear leathers if i could afford them and could find some my size. ( i am a big fat ****!)
ok well i am 72" and 220 lbs but still a big dude.
We dressed for the occassion... Jackets, full cuff leather gloves, good boots, thick denim riding jeans, etc.... I mean we were not out there in shorts and tank tops
Anyways It was a good night and a safe one! One day I will be able to afford full leathers, but untill then i have to make due. |

| Re: Ran the 1/4 mile Friday(long) I will post times when i get home for my 4 runs had 3 really good ones and one shitty one....
the one shitty one i wheelied off the line TWICE I was a little too high in the RPMs and did not let the clutch out slow enough. (more like i let it out enough to start moving then dumped it! Nervous i guess )
Reaper gave me alot of good advice out there on how to launch better! |
