| My first time. Well....I went out to a drag strip yesterday for my first time on my 929.
I got 3 runs, all in the low 12's. My best was a 12.032. I went out there not knowing a thing about dragging and I've never even tried to launch fast off the line until then. The first time a wheelied off the line and came down pretty hard, the second time i road the clutch too long and missed third gear toward the end, and the third time I almost stalled out at the line. I cant wait to get back out there next thursday because I know I can do a little better now that I've got an idea of what it's like. |

As for your times, you did well for your first time. The cool part is that you have plenty of room to grow before you need any serious modifications.
Work towards a high 10 sec pass with your stock set-up. You can do it. It's all in the 60ft times. |

| Re: My first time. I went out to the strip again on Thursday. I got to run about 6 or 7 times.
I was in the 11's everytime and my best time was an 11.04. My buddy on an 06 gsxr 600 ran an 11.2 and it was his first time running a motorcycle down the track.
I can't wait to get back out there but I have to wait a couple weeks because I have a baby due anyday now. I know the wife won't be happy if I'm an hour away racing when she decides to pop. |

| Re: My first time. What RPMs are you guys launching at? Should the clutch be out completly by the 60 ft time? I have been thinking about going to the drag strip some time, but I like my round tires and clutch. Never drag raced before... |

| Re: My first time. I leave around 6K. I pretty much dump the clutch, and WOT before I get 10ft out. If you are stock wheel base...DONT DOT THAT! lol Feather the clutch so it feels comfortable with you and how much the front comes up. A little is good, alot is not. |

I race stock wheelbase more than stretched. It's more fun for me that way. I usually tell people starting out to leave as if you were launcing hard from a stop light. You will eventually get to a comfortable point in which you are leaving at around 6000 RPM and using the clutch to control the wheelies. By about 30 -40 ft on a stock wheelbase you should be wide open and grabbing 2nd gear. |

| Re: My first time. Well... I try not to leave stop signs aggressive at all. It got me a 'contest of speed' ticket one time because of the 'doppler effect'. Maybe I'll have to go out somewhere and try it. Any suggestions on tire pressures, suspension settings... etc? |

The only time I've been out on a drag strip is with a wheelie bar attached, and a tire much wider than I am (Frank Hawley). My bike is too new, too big (I just stepped up from a 600), and right now too tall to even dream of trying this just yet.
I am too old to be suicidal . |
