| calling all drag racers! i have a 2006 1000rr and im getting into drag racing. I have straps , lowering link, 6 in extension on the way(do they make 10in extensions?). what set up do i need to do well on a 1/8 mile track. Like i said im pretty new to it, i messed around with it with the bike all stock but wheelies are too common.
how should i set the bike up, from what i read i need to soften the suspension. Also how should i change the gearing? i think im gonna go with a dynojet quick shifter but if there is a better one let me know. i would like some nos too. |

They don't make bolt on extensions more than 6". You need an MPS air shifter, not a quick shifter! Soften rebound and dampening on the shock, you want it to squat when you leave the line to put force on the rear tire. For gearing, I would go -1 front and up 2-3 in the rear, I'm only 2 up in the rear but will probably go to 3 next season if I don't sell the blade.

If you do prefer a button you can use your starter switch for activation as well, freeing up your horn for shifter duty.
Silverbullet is definitely your go-to guy for making drag race bikes. His shop can get you everything you need. |

The MPS kit comes with a switch that I use to make the starter button work for my NOS. My horn button is used for the airshifter when I am not using autoshift. It all depends on how you want to use the NOS. In my opinion it is better to use a button......if you are bracket racing, run your dial in off motor only...and if you spin or have a bad 60' you can spray to make up the time. On a wide open switch, I am wide open around 5ft out....so it would come straight up in first. I'm extended 9-1/2" and it comes up when I bump spray in first. If you spray every pass, you can't make up the time you lost from spinning or a bad 60'. It's hard to make people understand that.
As far as where to mount the bottles.....thats hard since the 1K doesn't have the trunk space like the 929/954. You can mount one bottle to the swingarm and the other bottle on the side around the rear peg area would be my guess. I have a 1K at the shop we just finished port/polishing the head on, but he is picking it up tomorrow so I won't be able to look over it good to help you any more than that unfortunately.

| Re: calling all drag racers! Silverbullet: ever heard of a BTC box (or something like that)?
I saw something about it on another site - apparently it will allow me to control which gears the nitrous sprays in. I definitely don't want to spray in first - and right now with stock wheelbase spraying in second is pretty hairy as well. |

After finding out how expensive and rare a BTC box is I found this - a PCIII hub. This will allow me to control the gears I spray in - and I may be able to run my shifter as an autoshifter with this device as well.
Not many drag racers on this site - but it may help someone. Schnitz Motorsports, Inc |
