Thats a wild MPH for a 12 flat....
Looks like you are getting a nice top gear rush!
But you realize of course that now we can calculate your weight....

I've been to Tri State a few times....but been going to Edgewater lately.....need to drag the bike along one of these times....

Damn that's some fun shiznit!!! Can you have someone shoot some video next time? That would be pretty slick! |

Most 120mph runs should be in the 11's or 10's. Basicaly, you got a hell of a lot of acceleration on the far end, now you just need to learn to launch that thing. |

| Re: Went down the 1/4 mile! your bike is capable of 1.7 60' times easy. I weigh 240lbs and on my 929 I cut 1.81 - 1.85 60' times pass after pass and it was bone stock. I was running 1/8 mile and I ended up running a very dissapointing 7.20 @100mph. Cant wait to do it again with my setup now. I usually hold my tach at 5000 rpms and slip the clutch whilerolling the throtle to WOT. Practice launches on a backroad to see what suits you best. |

alexandra : Well a few weekends ago I started going to the test and tune at the local drag strip. *I've been going every weekend since and happy to say improving greatly! *Today was my best day yet. *I'll post my FIRST ever time (totally humiliating) and todays best. *I still have to work on my 60fts. * First Run Ever * * * * * * * * Todays best
r/t - 0.636 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 0.785
60ft - 2.779 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2.457
e/t - 16.289 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 12.040
mph - 78.10 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 126.17
| Damn, you actually ran a 16.2 @ 78mph. *You do realize the bike has more than just 1st gear, right? *Just kidding.
Looks like you really need to get aggressive with your launches. *You should be able to get sub-2.0 60-foot times easily. *When I went I would launch at around 5k rpm and slip the clutch almost all the way through 1st gear. *
126mph is good for 10.9-11.2 or so depending on your launches. |

| Re: Went down the 1/4 mile! Nice, I remember the only time I went down the strip on my old 89 Gixxer 750. Bone Stock. Had about 40,000km on the bike, original motor. Managed to pull a 11.82 with a 1.79 60' time. Forget the MPH. This was launching at 9500RPM, brutally destroying my clutch. First run was dismal...
It's defintily a rush, but after the launch, I get kind of bored. Not much 1/4 mile in future with the bike.
Keep it up!!! |

| Re: Went down the 1/4 mile! Oh it looked like a nike emblem on the shoe but I was just figuring that since you were wearing jeans. It still looks bad even if you have boots on. I've seen people flip, hit the wall and have slapper crashes just going down the 1/4 so better to keep the skin on those sweet legs. |

| Re: Went down the 1/4 mile! Seems like you might be short shifting it. Especially on your first run. Shift it just before redline. I ran 10.5 @132 on a stock 929 with a 1.9 60ft. Took a bit of practice but it was done. The front was strapped down to help keep the wheel on the ground but I don't think it helped my 60ft time at all anyway. Its all about how hard you come out of the hole. After that just make sure to bang the gears in at the right times and don't screw anything up. |

| shifting is fine.... getting it to just before redline then shifting (clutchless). I am just not punching it, to get out of the hole quick enough. Like you said takes a bit of practice (that's what traffic lights are for, I'm just kidding Chain )
Thanks for the insight everyone! |

| Re: Went down the 1/4 mile! I'll second the bit about seeing tankslappers on the strip. My buddy had a NASTY one on a 929 (no damper); we all thought he was going down for sure. Somehow he rode it out. (Lucky for me - it was MY bike!
I've also seen a Suzuki blow the motor and slick the rear tire with oil, sending the bike and rider to the ground and skidding down the track at ~100 mph. Ugly.
I weigh ~220 all suited up; the best I ran on my 929 was a 10.58 at 132 mph. My 60's were in the 1.7 range. Mind you, the same bike went 10.11 with that 125-lb buddy of mine on board.
So, two thoughts:
1. Please wear full leathers. Some goofy stuff can happen, even in a straight line. You can get a pair of leather pants pretty cheap, but a full suit would be the best thing.
2. A steering damper can't hurt. The front end gets light under hard acceleration; uneven pavement (such as that from the 'groove' on a dragstrip) or undesired bar inputs can send your bars 'slappin'! |
