919rr high rev misfire

first run up the strip on my drag only 919, the engine fires up instantly and revs freely and sounds strong it launches ok then bad misfire 1.9 second 60' time then 14,4 second 1/4 at 90 mph . static is set to 39 degrees.runs with schnitz pro 2 ignition. v & h pro-pipe, on returning home i found these possible faults. realised i hadnt fitted the air box the bike was set up with a dynojet kit and k&n filter fitted in the air box . also i found a loose wire on one of the coils, would the lack of air box and filter couse this bad a misfire ?

Re: 919rr high rev misfire

not sure about the 919. if it has fuel injection, it will mess it up. there is a sensor on the back that must be connected on the 954. If it is not connected it can cause a rough running condition. Like I said though, I don't know about that particular bike

Re: 919rr high rev misfire

I know if the airbox isn't on the carbs properly it will make the RR run rough and break up (if it's jetted properly to start with) so I would assume it would do the same to the 919. I had schnitz promod box on my 9RR, think the box was messed up. It would never retard properly on motor, no matter where I moved the triggers. I sold it on ebay and plan on using v&h powerpak this year. good luck!

Re: 919rr high rev misfire

thanks for that . i've put the air box back on,re-checked the static timing, now has 39 degrees advance with 34 degrees retard programed for starting , checked all electrical conections made sure the spark plug leads are firmly snapped on to plugs (not an easy job) just got to wait till june for next test weekend at the strip.
