2005 Ducati Supersport 800

A friend of mine is purchasing one of these in a few weeks. The guy selling it has only put about 700 miles on it, and just had it serviced also. Anything to look out for on this particular model? We went and looked at it today and it seemed flawless.

Treat it like any other bike if the 600 mile service has already been done.

Make sure that the current owner still has the red key and they key code card in his/her possession. Those are expensive to replace...VERY expensive.

Prepare your friend ahead of time for spending a nice chunk of change every 6k miles for mandatory service.

Now mind you, I haven't done it myself yet but, the two valve motors aren't all that mysterious to do yourself. The story is that after the second time they won't need adjusting all that much. I haven't heard of any issues with that bike. There are some typical things like bad relays and starters once in a while but they are all pretty reliable. oem parts are expensive though. It has a wet clutch so it won't have that Ducati "character" noise of a dry clutch.

Well, after doing some searching, we found him a new-in-the-crate leftover 2004 RED VFR for $8600 out the door. Going to get it Friday or Saturday.

So, no Duck after all.
