Front brakes locked

Hi,

I just replaced fluids in my front brakes few days ago and yesterday my lines got solid and obvioulsy locked my brakes shut. Eventually they cooled down and the line got soft again. Any idea on what could it is happening. I am pretty sure I have no water and air in it.

Check to see if you pads are draging on the disc, if so this will heat up the disc and cause locking until it cools. Also check to make sure there is room in your fluid overflow, if you filled it to the top there will be no room for expansion from heat.

The pads are new so I am expecting to drag a little. I am pretty sure the reservoire has some room as well.

Check the torque and alignment of your pinch bolts, axle, spacers, etc..

all that it's fine, my only guess is that my lines or master cilinder are contaminated with random ****

When the brake is not applied does the front whell spin freely?

What about the caliper pistons themselves, they like to accumulate brake dust which may be causing piston seizure if they were pushed back in with out proper cleaning.

(this may or may not help but did you flush the system completely, perhaps the two fluids are having some sorta chemical reaction with each other???)

You ride a Ducati. While the bike is an Italian peice of art, it's a pain in the butt to maintain.

I have a Duc, and that hunk of crap has been and will be sitting in my garage until it decays.

I took them apart yesterday and they were clean. I was looking at the reservoire cap and it looks like is loosing some small parts of metal, probably decay. So I just got another one and I will rebuild the whole damn thing...will see...

they do take a lot of shortcut. I recently got an RC51 and I was looking over the service manual..I broke down laughing at how little you need to do to keep that thing running. I had a 929 for 16000 miles I have done **** on it and it was running like a champ

What do you mean by "got solid"? Then they cooled down and got soft? Do the brakes work at first then seize up after use? Then after they cool down work again? If so, that's air in the lines. Are they not working at all? I'd say when you pushed the pistons in for the new pads, they didn't go in straight or got gummed up with crud. Give them a good cleaning. Take the pads out and gently push the brake lever a little to see if the pistons come out smoothly and push them back in. Gently and just a little! Push too much they'll pop out.

My racing partner had a set of rear brakes lock on a bike he bought used. The bike had no air in the lines. The rear pads were dragging, the fluid heated and expanded which is just like pulling the lever.

Why were the brakes dragging? Who knows, the entire rear system was yanked and replaced with a smaller unit.
