| Re: Why are Ducatis so expensive? Like I said, it was meant to be sarcastic... As for it being my first post, well I did buy a Ducati to make an impression!
I do believe that, as others mentioned, Ducati is riding on its heritage just as HD did for many years. Who knows where Ducati will be in five years, let along ten. With times comes change and with change sometime the tables are turned around.
I am looking forward to picking up tip, tricks, etc from this forum and eventually meeting some of you at the tracks.
Now, if you don't mind my wife is waiting for me to ride her curves! (ok, so I will be watching TV with a friend but it does sound nice! Tuesday night, Nip-Tuck [Hot chicks, weird plot])
Oh, and I was seriously considering the Busa and even placed some bids on some, but in the end the Duck quacked.

| Re: Why are Ducatis so expensive? I had a heck of a time deciding between a 2002 998 or the '05 RC51 that i ended up purchasing. If I weren't dropping 5 figures of mods into my H-D, I would have gotten one of the nicer 998s I saw. I liked the Ohlins suspension and Termignoni exhaust. I will own a Duc one day, but finances dictate a measure of restraint. Besides, there is no shame in a nicely modified RC51 and a 165+ hp H-D used for hunting 'Busas. |

| Re: Why are Ducatis so expensive? Well after spending several minutes reading through this thread, I thought I would piss in a few bowls of cereal and ONCE AGAIN point out that the Ohlins suspension that comes on Ducati and a few other limited manufactured bikes are NOT "real" Ohlins pieces. They may or may not be manufactured by Ohlins (or KYB or a jobber under license to Ohlins/KYB), but they are OEM spec production units and are not interchangeable with standard Ohlins R&T or Superbike components. They may or may not be any better than the Showa/KYB that are standard equipment on most Japanese bikes.
If you need work or revalving etc. on your Ducati/Bimota/Aprilia with Ohlins suspension, you need to go back to the dealer, because Ohlins doesn't sell/support or stock parts for these OEM components.
The figure of 5K for suspension was mentioned in an earlier post. The suspension on a production 999 would cost about the same as the suspension on a CBR1000rr and probably isn't much better. |

I think they're posers, but that's just my take. If I were going to spend $20K on a bike I'd take a Honda 1000rr and put $10K worth of customization crap till on until it ran like a bat out of hell. And I'd put a trick custom paint job so it didn't look like every other bike going down the street. If I'm going to spend that kind of cash my bike should fly. |

OK, back to why Ducatis are so many $$$$. |

| Re: Why are Ducatis so expensive? They are expensive to prevent purchase of a bike that takes months to recieve parts for. they are the fillet mignon of the race track, they are just waiting to be ate up by every other manufacturer. |
