Rider position also changes with relations in seating position to hand and foot controls being less committed. One positive result here is less upper body weight on the wrists. Another plus is more leverage at the bar due to a wider bar placement. In total, the bar height has been raised 20mm, moved rearward and noticeably widened. The saddle has more of a curved shape and is also taller by 10mm but gains slightly in width at the rear of the tank.
| I want to sit on one at the show. (Cleveland this year?) Usually that kills any residual urge to think serioiusly about a Duc.
If that doesn't work, I go into my depreciation files and calculate how many lira I've wasted re-engineering Italian bakery equipment for the real world. Works like a charm. |

| Re: Duc 1098 Looking better and better I just have to wonder if this thing will smell like the 916 launch in the 90s. Lots of hoopla, low prices announced and then no one had any for about 13 months and then they were getting retail + 4K. For the "lucky" few that actually received one, they were greeted with a 16 month backorder on spares (which were required as soon as the rubber hit the racetrack).
I flew to New York twice to line one up and the deal fell through both times. Ducati never came up with the homologation money so it took two seasons before they became legal in superbike and they never did make it into supersport.
I would love to have one, but until I have enough spare change to hire a couple of ex works mechanics and win the powerball, I think I'll pass . . . |

Why produce a 1098 when the rules don't allow it? Oh wait, I forgot...they're Ducati...they'll just change the damn rules themselves.... |

| Re: Duc 1098 Looking better and better They are testing it (the magazines that is). First impressions sound good. Very nice bike even if not my style. If it gets the performance to back the looks, it might be the next 916-998. |

I'd wait to buy it until the buzz subsides, but I really like it.
Well it, the Husky Motard, and the new 600RR... |

| Re: Duc 1098 Looking better and better Am I the only one that is sick of seeing the standard moto-journo pic?
You know, the one where they specifically hang off as far as they can with poor form to try and get that elbow-down pic.
Just ride the fukking thing, get a pic of you actually riding it right. That is far more impressive than the standard "wook at me mommy" pic. |

| Re: Duc 1098 Looking better and better I like it a lot, but don't love it at this point. Maybe once I see it in person. So far I still see too much of an approach of "Crap! We blew it with the design of the 999! Let's go back and incorporate more of what made the 916/998 platform so appealing", rather than something that was really innovative and progressive in the art and design of the motorcycle. |

| Re: Duc 1098 Looking better and better Well I didn't like the 999 when it came out and now I love it. I like this a lot already, so it's not looking good for me.
I'll either go the oposite direction and hate it, or I'll have to have one.

He is trying to get the elbow down, not trying to go fast.
I ain't skeered of getting beat. It's fun being the slowest in the group. |
