Ducati 1098S..

I was just suprised to see the numbers on the 1098s... 435lbs wet and 140rwhp... 1/4 mile times 10.55 @136.06mph.. And of course its not about 1/4mile times, just suprised on the 1/4mile time.. I know its got brembo brakes and Ohlins fork, its a bad machine but for $20,000 seems like it should atleast be better than any of the Jap bikes and have more hp's than 140rwhp.. Im aware of the very linar powerband a twin has.. The new CBR is around the same weight with plenty more hp... I think now I see where honda was going.. TO the top..
"Get a good drive and the Ducati is going to give any literbike a run for its money".. I hope so for 20,000.... If any of the jap bikes where to cost $20,000 they could be alot lighter and have better parts, which would mean much better bike..

Same engine spec for 14k I think on the non-S version of the Duc, but you lose the wheels, ohlins, and ecu I believe. It's hard for V twins to compete hp to hp with I4's. You just have to have a thing for Ducati's to spend the extra money.

That's assuming that the engine can remain running for a whole 1/4 mile without stalling out.

Re: Ducati 1098S..

They seem to do well with a minimum of mods. I've seen quite a few dyno sheets for them showing 160rwhp with just PCIII, termignoni's, and ECU. There is a lot of potential in there.

However, V-twins are usually comparable in power to the I-4's one class below. 1000cc V-twin = 750cc I-4 750cc V-twin = 600cc I-4. Just the way it is on peak hp due to the lower revs. Torque is a different story though and like Conq said you have to have a thing for them. I have a thing for them. I love the old Ducati 916,996,998. If I ever have a little extra money and find a clean one I'll get it and it will be heavier and slower than my F4i. I'll still love it.
