2001 748 w/1800 miles - Thoughts?

I am going to look at a 2001 748, all original, no damage, with around 1600 miles. Price is $5800. I will have to get the timing belts replaced due to age - not sure about condition of the rockers (have to roll the dice on this?).

Is this a fair deal (I have been considering Honda RC51s up till now, but this bike is making me reconsider that)???

Thanks!

My brother picked up an almost identical bike this year. He has recently had to replace several rockers (so beware) the rockers can be very, very expensive to replace. However, Ducati now has a maintenance service package for a very reasonable price. If you can get that I would suggest it. Also check the condition of the clutch pack before deciding. They are a dry clutch and are rather costly to replace. I wouldn't worry about the milage and I would check the blue book cost to make sure someone isn't trying to get too much for the bike. All in all my brother is more than happy with his bike and I think he might have actually paid more than that for his. Just have a mechanic go over the above, and mabye there are some other things that I don't know about you might be able to find on some Ducati forums that will help even more, before making the decision to purchase.

I think this is only available for 2007 and newer bikes.

There is a lot of great information to be found on Ducati's over on Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum - Home . Also since I see you are from the SE side of Michigan you might want to look at the local Ducati clubs website, Ducsunlimited.com . When I had my 999 I found both of these sites to be helpful.

My brother got it for his 2001 a couple months back when he was getting all his work done. It paid for about 3/4 of what he owed.
